The diminutive blonde’s stature offers no hint to this sports blogger’s knowledge, passion and voice on the matter of all things sports. From cheerleaders to charities, football games and stadium stats, to intimate interviews with players, if it’s sports, Jayme knows it well and writes about it equally well.
The outgoing Lamm was herself an athlete stating at age five “popping wheelies to catch a boy’s eye,” she remembers. Her early career included a stint in professional sports in the areas of public relations and marketing. However, Lamm’s strong “views,” and brand of “enthusiasm” were not met with much joy by the industry, so she launched her blog, TheBlondeSide.com, in January 2010 and readers can’t seem to get enough of it. Now, she says, she works only for The Blonde Side, laughing with apparent satisfaction at the thought.
“I have a lot to say; I am very opinionated,” Lamm stated proudly, “but I wasn’t sure who was going to read The Blonde Side when I started it. You might think that my readers are all women, but only about 40 percent are women. About 60 percent are men. I think the reason anyone reads it stems from the fact that I am genuine and authentic. I am also goofy and laugh at myself. And I am not a know-it-all when it comes to sports. I am not afraid to make a mistake,” she stated, “and I do make mistakes.”
A quick review of the The Blonde Side blog reveals a reader-friendly style chocked full of entertainment, and content that would seduce the least sports-minded among us to return – again and again. Football, baseball, soccer — every sport that includes competition, it’s all there. In short, the blog is full of insight and fun, just like Lamm.

If I cancel last minute I’ll get charged? If I don’t sign up quick enough, will there be a spot for me? The woman twice my age looks five times better in her Lululemon pants than I do? This costs how much?
These are the workout questions.
I’ve found that if I’m charged a fee to cancel, I won’t (we’re more prone to bail on workouts last minute). I’ve found that if I wait too long, my favorite class and time will be full and I’ll miss a great workout. I’ve found that a 45-year-old woman who looks better in her Wunder Unders than I do can be the exact motivation I need. I’ve found that if I spend more money at the gym, I’m more likely to work harder and faster and turn on BEAST MODE the entire hour I’m there to get my full money’s worth.
“I didn’t want to be just another gym where you pay your $40 and jump on a treadmill and move on.”
I’ve found my fitness home, at least for right now.
Boot camps are fun and intense, and usually yield the results you want — if done consistently. But one thing Heather Garrigus, founder of Sculpt and Sculpt Fusion, noticed was that boot camp was usually dictated by the weather, and here in Houston, that can be a tough cookie to swallow.
Immediately following law school, Garrigus, came to Houston. Using her fitness acumen to teach group classes was not only how she made extra money to pay for law school, it was also her stress relief. Soon, she found her love for the fitness world fast outgrew her love of law and she applied her hard work and study ethics from her recent law school days directly to gyms, classes and their increasing trends.
Traveling to Los Angeles, New York and Miami, Garrigus scouted what was hot in those big cities, the industry trends and what people actually wanted.
“I gathered all that together because I knew eventually I wanted to open my own place,” she says. “I took all the stuff I liked from around the country and put it into one thing. I didn’t want to be just another gym where you pay your $40 and jump on a treadmill and move on.”
The gathering all of that into one thing? Garrigus wasn’t kidding.
The only other studio in Texas that uses these newer machines is in Dallas.

ropes, pushing sand bags, doing spider-pushups, slinging ropes, jogging backwards, using step boxes — among a multitude of infinite possibilities.
Sculpt and Sculpt Fusion are what Garrigus classifies a boutique studio, where you pay for what you use. Her team focuses on more personal attention with classes ranging from two to 16 people max.
“Think of it like group personal training,” she says.
If you need that extra kick in the butt after a stagnant workout at your chain gym, you might consider trying one of her three locations. With classes named Shredded, Haute Hiney, Hip Hop Friday, Full Throttle and more, you know it’s pretty unique on the Houston fitness landscape.
Even if you already belong to a gym, Sculpt is a chance to add-on without the commitment. If you’re looking for extra intensity to start the new year off with or to avoid the rookies at your regular gym, it’s an option.
Sculpt Fusion
“I wanted something that got the intensity of a boot camp, but was indoors. There are so many limitations outside. I saw how popular and effective they were in Los Angeles and New York City — you got your cardio and weights all in an hour and then you’re done. You don’t have to leave class and say ‘Now I have to go do cardio.’ These classes are efficient and effective.
“We waned to add the cardio and intensity component because a lot of people want that intensity level — that’s the way people are going now and it’s the most effective way to burn fat and change your body. We added the spinning to the studio too and have fused half spin and half weights,” Garrigus says of her spot right off Kirby.
Sculpt
“The machines [ProFormers] at our Tanglewood location were developed from a guy from LA. Some people call it ‘Pilates on steroid.’ It’s a bigger machine, and you can do a lot more things on it, especially a lot more standing work and the intensity level is much higher than traditional Pilates.
“Again, you kind of fuse the flexibility training, cardio and weight training all into one workout. A lot of people like it because they found they’ve reached a plateau in their traditional Pilates classes and stopped seeing results. We want people to keep seeing results,” Garrigus says.
Sculpt is the only studio in Houston that has these ProFormers. The only other studio in Texas that uses these newer machines is in Dallas.
The instructors are also kind of a big deal. Not only have they all been in and around the industry for 10-plus years (almost all with Garrigus in some capacity), they’re all skilled in many areas, making these fusion workouts actually work. They’re all skilled at some level in Pilates, running, personal training, spinning, stretching and more, making them a versatile teach pool for almost any kind of client.
“My trainers continue to learn about new things and stay on the edge of what’s hot and what’s new keeping things fresh,” Garrigus says.
“A lot of gyms/clubs are so stagnant and we try to be anything but.”

With the New Year comes a lot of promises to ourselves. Like evading the mall and lowering credit card bills. Or bringing your A-Game to work everyday.
Working out more. Eating less. Washing your hair on a daily basis. Cutting back on your superfluous champagne consumption.
OK, maybe those last few were just mine, but still, the New Year brings about a time where we all want to make positive changes.
I couldn’t go on any dates, couldn’t meet the girls for happy hour, couldn’t drive past Arby’s without wanting to crash my Tahoe into the brick building.
The fad of juicing/fasting/detoxing has been around for some time, but I decided the start of a new year was the perfect time to jump on that liquid train and see for myself. I decided to forego those cryptic recipes on the interwebs which required a food processor, ground up pig feet, splashes of cayenne pepper and other garb and instead try a local company: Crush Cleanse.
Crush Cleanse launched in October 2012 as Houston’s first premier juice cleanser. This particular cleanse focuses on a feeling of a cleansed body and mind — more than a weight loss tactic. The goal is to reset and reboot your body in hopes to help reinvent healthy habits and rid your body of post party toxins (i.e. the Veuve Clicquot mentioned above).
The cleanse comes in a one day, three day, five day and 10 day formats and can be purchased at various retailers throughout Houston or delivered straight to your door. I opted for the three day cleanse — which turned into 48 grueling hours of no food or champagne.
Yes, if you do the math, you’ll notice I didn’t make it.
What started out as an actual challenge to see if I could go without food for three entire days, ended up exactly that — a challenge. It was tough for a multitude of reasons. I couldn’t go on any dates, couldn’t meet the girls for happy hour, couldn’t drive past Arby’s without wanting to crash my Tahoe into the brick building and start gorging on fatty food. I don’t even like Arby’s.
While results vary for each person, it just wasn’t something I could finish. It did give me bursts of energy and made me eat less when I finally reacclimated to the wonderful world of food. Not only did my stomach feel smaller, I got full quicker and I wanted to put less bad stuff in my body.
Those first two nights I slept like a baby, which was also a pleasant surprise.
The Clean Truth
Crush Cleanse is comprised of cold pressed, unpasteurized, raw, vegan, gluten free and dairy-free juices. Made with an abundance of vegetables, fruits and nuts, it is not a cleanse where you are starved or guaranteed to lose weight — you’re still consuming approximately 1,200 calories per day.

“We don’t believe in depriving the body but rather in reviving it back to an all natural, toxin free state.”
Juices No. 1 and No. 3 each have six pounds of vegetables (including kale, spinach, romaine, cucumber and celery), so you’ll definitely get your fill of important nutrients and vitamins to try and ward off excessive fatigue or grouchiness. Each day of the cleanse you are flooding your bloodstream with all natural, live juices packed with vitamins, enzymes and essential nutrients.
“We don’t believe in depriving the body but rather in reviving it back to an all natural, toxin free state,” says Elena Dunn, principal owner and founder of Crush Cleanse. After time we all accumulate built up toxins from processed foods, alcohol, nicotine and even air pollution.
“Crush Cleanse is an all natural way to not only flush the body of these impurities but to balance and alkalize your PH — disease cannot thrive in a PH balanced system!”
The cleanse consists of six juices consumed throughout the day and there are different cleanse levels: First Crush (recommended for first time cleansers), Crushing Hard and Major Crush.
First Crush consists of a variety of all six juices (two green, pineapple, carrot, spicy lemonade & cashew), Crushing Hard replaces the carrot juice with a signature green juice and Major Crush consists of four greens, a spicy lemonade and cashew milk. These cleanse systems were specifically formulated to gently detox your system while still delivering an abundance of essential vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants.
Keep a bathroom nearby, at all times, under all circumstances.
Preparing for your cleanse is an integral part of easing into an all-juice diet. Things like slowly cutting out meats, sugars and starches three days before beginning your cleanse will help your body adjust and minimize symptoms. Some symptoms during your cleanse can include a headache, skin irritation, upset stomach, and a feeling of hunger.
All of these symptoms are normal as it is just a sign of toxins slowly making their way out of your body. As the days go, you can aim to look forward to: More energy, clearer thinking, no feeling of hunger, possible weight loss, glowing/radiant skin, and an overall feeling of healthiness inside and out.
If a cleanse is something you’ve never tried, it’s definitely an experience worth trying. You may not have ground-breaking results like others, but you’re likely to notice even a few small changes after you’ve completed it.
Plus, challenges are good. Toxins are bad.
The Quick and Dirty
– Juices are typically spaced out two to three hours between one another (depending on individual needs).
– You MUST drink water while cleansing, the only juices with a little water are No. 4 Spicy Lemonade and No. 6 Cashew Milk, so even though you’re consuming liquids, you still need aqua.
– The numbers on the bottles (one to six) are a suggested order to drink, but feel free to move them around (for me, I didn’t want or need them all, I just drank when I needed a pick me up or a boost of energy).
– You can workout while cleansing, but be sure to listen to your body and not push it too hard especially the first day since your body is ridding itself of all the built up toxins and impurities. With that being said you may feel slightly fatigued and headache. (I can testify to this — I did have enough energy to work out, but headaches and fatigue did start to take over on day two).
– Drinks MUST be refrigerated at all times and before you drink them make sure to shake them up (I thought it’d be easier to drink them out of a huge wine glass for the fun factor, but it’s hard to reshake the juice when you have half left, so keep it in the original bottle).
– The juices MUST be consumed upon delivery, the shelf life is five to seven days but best consumed right away.
– Pregnant, nursing, the elderly and children are not recommended to cleanse due to the unpasturized nature of the juices.
– Keep a bathroom nearby, at all times, under all circumstances.

The Blonde Side was recently interviewed by Your Super Awesome Life about how and why her life just felt so “awesome.” The interview was fun and it felt great to be considered “inspirational” by such a great soul like Ashley.
Here are just a few of the questions in the interview:
5. What advice to you have for other aspiring freelance writers?
Hate to sound all Nike cliché, but JUST DO IT. Even if you start small – start a blog, don’t be afraid to offer guest blogs for free (yes, for free) or reach for the stars and email and pitch editors of your favorite blogs/mags/pubs. The worst that can happen is they say hell no (or more likely, not even respond), and then so what? You may not be any better off, but you’re certainly not worse off.
6. What little things in life right now make you do a happy dance? Big things?
The little things in life – like the Dallas Cowboys not being in the playoffs again…
As for a big thing, well that’s pretty simple and I can sum it up in two words: I’m happy. There aren’t a lot of people who can say that (and mean it) and I don’t know when that happened, but it did. I’m happy. More than just content, but happy. It’s probably a goal I’ve worked towards my whole life and finally met it – it feels really good, ya know?
10. What inspires you to continue living a life you love each day?
If I don’t love my life, who the hell will?

Long gone are the hammered all-nighters on Fraternity Row sloshing around a table with feeble attempts to sink a ball into a cup of beer. Only in your dreams could you imagine playing a four-day tournament of chucking plastic balls into red solo cups for the chance to win $50,000. Or so you thought.
Welcome to the World Series of Beer Pong, the largest, longest-running beer pong tournament in the world. Last week, the 8th annual World Series of Beer Pong (WSOBP VIII) took place inside the newly renovated Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas where over 800 semi-drunkards tossed balls and tried to block out the obnoxiously loud music that goes along with everything Las Vegas. Music so loud, concentration was nearly impossible. And when a prize pool of $70,000 is on the line, concentration is key, even when consuming mass amounts of PBR. Mass amounts of PBR to the tune of 130 kegs, all for love of the high-stakes game.
Unfortunately, the check was too large for any ATM, so they had to wait until Monday to cash it.
Without a qualifying round, any aspiring professional beer pong’er could sign up his or her team in hopes of winning the grand prize and presumably claiming the biggest bragging rights this side of the Heisman. This year’s annual tournament attracted nearly 400 teams from 48 U.S. states and 14 countries, as well as 1000+ spectators in the stands and aisles soaking it all in.
The Rules:
WSOBP allows players to play with beer or any other liquid. During play, two-person teams stand on opposite ends of an 8-foot-long table, where ten 16-ounce cups, filled with roughly 4 ounces of beer/liquid, are placed in a bowling-pin formation. Starting to bring back memories?
Each team takes turns tossing beer pong balls at their opponent’s cup formation. If a ball goes into a cup, the cup is removed from the game. The first team to eliminate all of its opponent’s cups wins. Each team has a guaranteed 12 games over two days and the chance to advance to the finals on day three, which then gets broken down into sporting brackets like Sweet Sixteen and Final Four.
After 50 rounds and 22 games of aggressive PBR-filled competition, Timothy Findley and Mike Seivert, from Sacramento, CA claimed the title as WSOBP VIII champions, pocketing the nice chunk of $25,000 apiece. Under the team name “Drinkin Smokin Straight West Coastin,” the two guys snagged the title from the two-time champions (2009 & 2010) “Smashing Time.” Talk about an event going down to the wire. The final match was decided by the final cup, which was sunk by Mike of “Drinkin Smokin Straight West Coastin” to declare victory over all the competition.

Although their hand-eye coordination was enough to get their balls into the cups, perhaps these teams should consider delegating a portion of their prize winnings to finding a creative team name in future tournaments? Just a thought…
And in case you’ve got a little spare time on your hands, check out the real history of beer pong and start to impress your co-workers. Maybe even sign up for next year’s tournament.

Maybe Now Anthony Armstrong Can Stop Traveling.
As a travel and sports writer, I feel pretty damn confident in my packing abilities. At least until I talked to an NFL vagabond and got the skinny on his packing capabilities, which kind of put mine to shame. It was already apparent he could school me on running routes and perfecting the slant, but packing too?
Meet Anthony Armstrong, Wide Receiver, who’s just signed back up with Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys . Although he’s home in Dallas for the time being, his location on his Twitter bio is pretty telling: “Mostly here, never there.”
Having joined the NFL in , Armstrong has already found a place on four different rosters: Washington, Miami, Jacksonville and most recently his hometown in Dallas. If I were any good at math, I could tell you the percentage that equates to, alas I am not. Finding himself not only in a new uniform and a new city, Armstrong has learned that if he gets one of those career-changing calls (being traded or released), he doesn’t have a lot of time to make the move. “Every time I get a phone call to move, the max I have to get on a flight is about four hours. That means you only have four hours to pack for what you hope to be a very long time,” Armstrong says.
When we talked, at the end of last year, Armstrong admitted to feeling at home with his new team, led by Tony Romo, where he’d be used on offense and special teams. “It feels great, this is my hometown team – the team I grew up watching. It’s kind of one of those childhood dreams for playing for your hometown team,” Armstrong admits. “I’m just happy to be home around my family and friends, just excited for the opportunity,” he says.
Most of the players we hear about on a regular basis (i.e. Andre Johnson, Ray Lewis) have pretty long tenure with their teams, but the path Armstrong has been on for a few seasons is more common than we think. “Honestly I didn’t expect it [being released from Jacksonville]. I went in expecting to go to work and they had to let me go. It was a numbers game, they had to assign other personnel to another position, I just happened to be the odd man out. Gene Smith was adamant that I hadn’t done anything wrong, I was brand new and they had injuries and I ended up being the one they had to release to fill those needs on special teams,” Armstrong explains.
The potential of being released is something that’s on player’s minds all the time. “You have to be aware of it all the time. Being naïve or thinking you’re too good…everyone is replaceable in this business,” Armstrong admits. “It makes me work harder so there aren’t any questions left out there like ‘Can we operate without this guy?’ Coming in midseason the coaches have less of you to watch so you have to make a stronger position,” he says.
Armstrong believes what’s more interesting than his recent travel patterns in the NFL is his actual path into the league. “I took the path less traveled, or probably not traveled at all,” he laughs. “I played a little flag football to stay in shape and got the itch to play again. I played a season with the Odessa Roughnecks for $200/game. We had training camp in the parking lot. It was pretty small time, but it was an opportunity to play the game I loved and keep going. From there, I went to an open workout and caught the eyes of Will McClay [head coach of Dallas Desperados, which is also owned by the Jones family] who brought me in for a workout and I eventually made that roster. After two seasons, I got an opportunity with the Miami Dolphins then got on to Washington,” Armstrong recalls.
Still, being a part of four teams in just five years is a pretty daunting career ladder to continuously climb. Can you imagine changing high school four times? You’d never have anyone to sit with in the lunch room. As someone who went to the same school from sixth grade until my senior year, I sure as hell can’t imagine that much moving around.
“I get along with people well, I can fit in with everybody,” Armstrong admits. The most frustrating part for him? The traveling.
“I’ve lived out of a suitcase for three months now. You’re always changing; a lot of people think playing in the NFL is all glitz and glam all the time, but the truth is you can lose your job in an instant and then have to move across the country and start from scratch. It can be frustrating in that you’re expected to show up day 1 and play at a high-level like you’ve been there all summer with that team. In a sense it’s not very fair but it’s the nature of the business – this is what I wanted to do all my life because I’m happiest on the field running routes,” Armstrong explains.
“Of course you always want to be with one team and get a nice contract and stay there for a while but you have to understand that to keep this opportunity you may have to move somewhere at the drop of a hat,” he continues.
I asked Armstrong for permission to be a little girly for a minute and talk about his travel. What the hell do you pack with only a four-hour window to pack and hightail it to the airport and to do so for four months?
Laughing, Armstrong obliges my girly question veering off football for a moment.
“Lets see, the first time I had to go to Washington from Miami and I just packed sweatshirts to keep me warm, and suits and dress shoes to travel in. I try to consolidate everything into one bag. I do take my playstation with me – that’s one thing I have to travel with all the time. You do a lot of recycling of clothes – I try not to wear the same thing over and over but you don’t really have much of a choice if you’re hopping from team to team,” Armstrong says. “You need to keep it basic – get yourself some jeans, a simple t-shirt, a jacket, and just something to cover up your shirt if you have to wear it three days straight,” he laughs.
Speaking of not being all the glitz and glam we all imagine the NFL to be, the 29-year-old wide receiver is now back home living with his mom. “My friends joke me but I’ve been blessed with that opportunity –I haven’t been home in five years, so this is nice. I make sure to stay out of her way and let her do her thing, and not be a hassle,” the good son explains.
Although it’s a difficult question to ask, you have to wonder if after so much trading around and being released here and there if Armstrong starts to lose faith in his football abilities.
Armstrong and his inspirational mother (photo via Anthony Armstrong)
“I just keep plugging away, it’s something that I learned from my mother and that’s where I find my motivation and inspiration,” Armstrong explains. “Growing up she never complained and worked long hours, but she always found a way to provide and make it to our games. I know that whenever I’m out there, training and playing or if I’m hurt, I think about her. Hopping from team to team is a part of the business that some people have to experience and I’m blessed for this opportunity and will continue to make the best out of it,” Armstrong says optimistically.
Shortly after our interview, Armstrong was released from the Dallas Cowboys on December 22, to make room for guard Ronald Leary, in hopes of helping their playoff chances. It seems the numbers game had taken Armstrong’s dream of playing for his hometown team…until today. The Cowboys just signed the WR along with nine others to see what they can do. But fans already know he’ll pack like a champ and work his tail off to prove he belongs on squad.
This post is part of The Blonde Side’s Momentum Challenge series to interview one active player from all 32 NFL Teams within the short time frame of 34 days. Anthony Armstrong and his old/new home in Dallas cross the Dallas Cowboys off the list. This series (sadly), has come to a close and The Blonde Side did not meet the goal of all 32 interviews. Oh well, valiant effort, yes?

The NFL’s Most Beautiful Cheerleader – Lauren (photo via The Fast Show Life)
Record setters: 10 Houston Texans cheerleaders make list of 100 Most Beautiful NFL Cheerleaders
Just a few weeks ago the Houston Texans scored another franchise first by having eight players named to the 2013 Pro Bowl set to take place in Hawaii on January 27th. But it’s not just the guys who are setting records this season. What about those beautiful Houston Texans Cheerleaders who strut around Reliant pumping up 70,000-plus fans each home game?
In a recent web feature, the Fast Life Show named the 100 most beautiful NFL cheerleaders — and topping the list? The Texans cheerleaders, of course, with a record setting number of 10 girls in the top 36!
The #babesonparade didn’t just have eight girls hit the list, they had 10 thanks to their two sets of gorgeous twins, and they claimed the #1 spot in all the NFL.
Impressed yet?
“With our program we try to be the best and to see someone else recognize us without solicitation from us, that’s huge – that’s approval and acceptance of our program. It makes me happy to see that others see our hard work,” says Alto Gary, who has remained the only cheerleader coach in the 10-year history of the team.
“Yes, we want the best dancers, but you need to look a certain part too. Being from Texas, you have to represent. Texas has this stereotype of having hot women, so we wanted to show that with our team.”
Hard work and dedication
But it isn’t just fans and websites like The Fast Life that have taken notice of the HTC.
Pro Bowler and fifth-year Texan veteran Duane Brown also sees the important role these women play and appreciates their hard work and dedication.
“I think hands down we have the best cheerleaders in the NFL and possibly in sports. They are absolutely gorgeous and great people as well. During events where I’ve had the chance to interact with them, they were very kind and all had great personalities,” Brown says.
“They work very well with kids and fans of all ages. On Sundays, they are filled with great energy and help get the crowd at Reliant rocking which helps us players perform well. I’m very proud of them, this recognition is well deserved.”
The HTC’s who topped this list (and their response to being selected):
“Seeing myself in the top 100 was definitely unexpected. It’s exciting to see the amount of exposure HTC has received recently, and I’m just very fortunate to have been one of the eight to represent our organization.”
HTC Cheerleader, Kelli (photo via The Fast Show Life)
“I was astonished and honored to be included in the elite, professional Top 100 most beautiful! I felt blessed beyond belief as I know how hard each NFL Cheerleader works on physique & beauty. We strive for perfection with our God given beauty & to be recognized for such is truly an honor!”
“When I first got word that I made Fastlife Top 100 from my fellow teammate #36 Liliana, I could NOT believe it. I said are you sure its me?! It’s such a blessing to be apart of a great organization and to be in the top 100 most beautiful girls in the NFL along with my other teammates. There are no words for it. I’m so proud of my teammates who made the list as well. And all of us being in the TOP 40, that is unbelievable! #GO TEXANS #babesonparade”
“We were very flattered when we learned that we are a part of this list. The list is posted in descending order, so we were kind of caught in a moment of suspense as we were scrolling through the list wondering ‘what number are we!!’.”
“It was an honor to be selected in the top 100! I was shocked to be number 13 out of so many beautiful girls! We have a beautiful team this year and it was neat to see a lot of our team on the list!”
Dresdynn and Schuyler (photo via The Fast Life Show)
“We were so flattered and thrilled to be #7. When we found out we were so happy!”
And drumroll please...
The #1 spot goes to the rookie Lauren L.
“When finding out I made the #1 Most Beautiful Cheerleader in the NFL I was just astonished. I feel absolutely blessed and thankful!” says Lauren of her top spot.
“Having a rookie voted at #1 – that was exciting. I call her my beach bunny girl. She’s a sweet person, and definitely has the inner personality that is representative of the Texans,” Alto says.
Credit to the coach
While much of the credit goes to these beautiful women who made the NFL’s Most Beautiful list, a large part should go to Gary as well. She had her job cut out for her starting back in April of last year while selecting the squad of 32 out of nearly 1,000 girls.
“It starts at tryouts, when a rookie comes on, seeing if she has good bone structure, etc. I have to keep the Texans organization in consideration when choosing the girls as they’re a classy classic look,” Gary explains.
As for keeping up appearances, the girls are given a little help in that department. “We do give an allotment of $150 per month/per girl that they can use at salons for hair and product. We do require them to have their nails done because they are so close to the fans. People always ask if I have a weight requirement, but I always ask ‘do you look good in your uniform?’ and that’s all I care about,” says Gary.

One thing she is a stickler about? Having the girls don a bright red lipstick for game day. “Red is our team color and the girls always fight me on that,” she laughs.

The success of this team goes far beyond impressive dance moves and the ability to rock such a small and revealing uniform. The ladies know how to interact with their fans, especially when it comes to social media.
Engaging social media
According to @NFLCheerRT on Twitter, a hub for for everything cheerleaders, @TexansCheer is full of “genius marketing” and now has more Twitter followers (currently at 74,232) than two NFL teams (Arizona Cardinals and Jacksonville Jaquars), five MLB teams (Miami Marlins, Arizona Diamondbacks, San Diego Padres, Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies), and five NHL teams (Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Phoenix Coyotes, Florida Panthers and New York Islanders).
Knowing how to engage their fans on the field and on social media is something the HTC are doing better than any of the other NFL Cheerleaders out there as well, including the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, @dccheerleaders, by tens of thousands. (DC Cheerleaders currently have 47,851 followers).
To put their popularity in perspective, the Texans Cheer account has two times as many followers as Redskins phenom rookie RB Alfred Morris. Even a national sports show took the time to mention the Tweeting Texans Cheerleaders, while semi-bashing the guys on the field.
Congratulations to these beautiful women on their superior recognition and to the entire Houston Texans organization for an already record setting season. Here’s to a big-time W against Andy Dalton and those Bengals on Saturday, and hopefully advancing further into the playoffs on their road to New Orleans on February 3.
