HOUSTON RANKS AT THE TOP OF ONE TENNIS PRO’S TRAVEL SCHEDULE
Though not from Houston, professional tennis player FELICIANO LÓPEZ considers Houston one of his favorite spots to hit the court. And he’s got a lot of basis for comparison. Currently ranked 14th in the world, López has an intense travel schedule and pretty much always has since he started playing professionally almost 17 years ago. “It’s beautiful – I feel very lucky to play there in Houston,” the top-ranked pro says on his upcoming tournament next month in River Oaks.
Talking with López, he’s about as polite as they come, but you wouldn’t know it on the court with his 200km/h serve, where he takes pity on no one. Although he considers tennis a “beautiful sport,” it is his job and he’s raked in almost $10 million throughout the course of his career. The hardest part of playing professional tennis for López isn’t the 3–5 hours of hard work he puts in on the court at least six days a week, it’s the grueling travel schedule that comes along with it. “I have a lot of favorite places I’ve played in. I like America in general – I like Miami, New York and Houston. I like my hometown of Madrid too,” he adds with a smile. “You have to sacrifice a lot. It [tennis] takes a lot of determination, dedication and hard work,” Lopez says of his sport. His toughest competitors? You probably guessed a few of them. “NADAL, FEDERERand DJOKOVIC – those three for sure,” López says.
AS FOR YOUNG ASPIRING PLAYERS, LÓPEZ OFFERS THIS SAGE ADVICE: IF YOU ENJOY IT, PLAY IT.

Taking her footwork from the boxing ring to NFL sidelines, Houston Texans Cheerleader (HTC) Antonieta has quite the inspirational and dominating back-story.
When you think of an NFL cheerleader, a lot comes to mind. Things like big smiles, unfathomable dance moves, great bodies, bikini calendar shoots, team spirit and boxing. Wait, boxing?
So meet Toni (she goes by this because most people can’t pronounce Antonieta) – having just completed her rookie year as a cheerleader for the Texans, but has been a decorated boxer for USA Boxing since 1999. That’s right – the Conroe, Texas native is the definitionof a knockout.
If you follow the Texans cheerleaders on Instagram, you may have noticed a photo of Toni holding a championship belt, her Texas Female State Championship belt she won in 2005 after beating all the girls in her division. Which of course prompted this interview. Though she spends her times currently on the sidelines at NRG Stadium cheering on JJ Watt and the others, boxing is always top of mind for Toni, “It’s in my blood, I can’t quit.”
Check out our exclusive interview with one of the most impressive women to ever step on an NFL field:
Man Cave Daily: What is the hardest thing about being an HTC?
Toni: Time management. All of us have jobs or go to school so practicing three nights a week along with appearances and events can be overwhelming if you don’t know how to manage your time. We all work really hard and have to be extremely organized to keep up. It’s such an amazing opportunity you don’t want to miss a thing!
MCD: Tell me about your boxing career?
T: I started boxing in 1999 for USA Boxing. USA Boxing is the national governing body for Olympic-style amateur boxing. I started coaching right out of high school and have judged several matches. My record is 10-4, I was the Silver Gloves State Champion in 2000, Texas Female Boxing Champion in 2005, won the Games of Texas a couple of times, along with Golden Gloves. I lost my four fights towards the end of my career.
As an adult making time for my training and practices kept getting harder and coaching was taking a lot of my time. I love coaching and sharing what boxing did for me in my life. I opened up my own all female boxing studio, Miss Boxer, in 2012 and was able to offer Boxing, Kickboxing, Zumba, Yoga & different fitness classes for women. My studio is currently closed as I am focusing on cheerleading and my full time job right now, but hope to reopen in the near future.
MCD: What was the hardest part about boxing?
T: The hardest part for me was being able to be respected as a woman in a men’s sport. There are still people today that don’t think women should box or participate in these types of sports. My generation of female boxers had no choice but to turn professional at age 18. We didn’t have women in the Olympics at that time, so at age 18 our USA Boxing Amateur careers were technically over.
I stayed away from turning professional because my dream at one point was to compete in the Olympics and once you turn pro you can’t go back. Being able to coach and open up my own studio was a dream in itself and after a lot of prayer and soul searching I realized I enjoyed coaching more than fighting. I knew I didn’t want to give up boxing completely but I definitely wanted to teach women what boxing taught me.
Being a female boxer has a lot of meaning; it means that you have to prove yourself in and out of
HTC Toni striking a pose
the ring as an athlete, you have to work twice as hard to be noticed because you’re only a girl, you have to be self disciplined, professional, strong and last but not least you have to fight. This is what life, as a woman, is all about. I always like to share what boxing has instilled in me and it’s that no matter how many punches life throws at us, or how many times we get knocked down we have to get up and keep fighting. Fortunately now we have boxing in the Olympics and we have amazing girls competing and representing us well, like our very own Houstonian Marlen Esparza, who is the first American woman in history to qualify for the Olympics.
MCD: What got you into boxing?
T: My little brother was only eight when my dad signed him up for boxing classes. I was in gymnastics at the time and even though I was considered a “tomboy,” loving the outdoors and riding my go-cart, I never considered taking up boxing. During one of his practices the coach asked me if I wanted to spar. That day they had a few girls in class; I never back out of anything so I agreed to join. I think the coach noticed that even though it was my first time fighting in the ring I wasn’t backing down. He talked to my dad after we were done with our rounds and I joined right after. I had my first Silver Gloves fight shortly after, won by TKO second round and realized I was pretty good and it was fun! The rest is history.
MCD: Do you watch boxing movies?
T: Yes! I love boxing movies like Cinderella Man, Girlfight, Million Dollar Baby, all the Rocky movies! They’re my fave!
MCD: Do you enjoy watching boxing? UFC?
T: I love all forms of martial arts, but I really enjoy watching Boxing in the Olympics. The style is completely different; it’s a lot like fencing and takes a lot of speed and technique. I really like Marlen Esparza and really admire UFC Fighter Gina Carano.
MCD: How has boxing helped your cheering career?
T: My boxing career has helped me in so many ways. I know I mentioned earlier how boxing has changed my life all together, but in cheerleading it has definitely helped me not to give up. I don’t know if you are familiar with our tryout process, but we have more than 1,000 girls try out every year. I tried out last year and didn’t make it so I came back this year a lot more prepared and gave it another try. I work really hard in anything I put my mind to, I don’t take no for an answer and I don’t give up.
MCD: Are people usually shocked to find out you were a boxer?
T: All the time!
MCD: Does your background in boxing scare or intimidate guys?
T: I think at first, but once they get to know me they realize I’m just another girl.

Guys I have searched high and low and I finally found her–the quintessential girl next door that you just can’t help but love. This girl next-door phenom isn’t just for the cheesy movies that could never happen in real life, it’s real, and she lives in Baltimore.
Meet my friend Stephanie B., a beautiful blonde member of the Baltimore Ravens Cheerleaders. She is a Hokie for life (yes, you Virginia Tech alum will obsess over her), used to cheer for the Tennessee Titans and for the last two years has been a great addition to the Ravens, and is even heading to Arizona as the Pro Bowl representative for her team.
You might recognize Stephanie, and not just from the Ravens sidelines. She was on American Ninja Warrior, season six – although she admits she didn’t do too well.
It’s a wonder how Stephanie found time to give us an exclusive interview as her schedule is already jam packed with nightly practices (from April – January), weekly appearances and 10 home games (where the girls have to arrive five hours prior to kickoff), plus her full-time job, which she absolutely loves.
And Stephanie doesn’t just stand on the sidelines looking stunning – she’s one of the stunters for the Ravens, trying to keep the fans pumped up throughout the entire game. She’s got a big job on her hands, but from what she tells me, the Pro Bowl-bound blond wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Man Cave Daily: Where are you originally from?
Stephanie B.: I was born in Annapolis, MD, but I did most of my “growing up” in Fredericksburg, VA.
MCD: So you’re going to the Pro Bowl! How exciting (and congrats)! What are you most looking forward to?
SB: Wow… that’s a good question! There’s so much to look forward to! Of course I’m eager to learn the choreography and perform at the game, but I really can’t wait to meet all of my teammates! I was in shock when I was voted to represent the Ravens, but now I’m just so excited to head west to Arizona!
MCD: Seeing all the Pro Bowl cheerleaders interact via Twitter, it seems you gals are REALLY excited to meet each other?
SB: Even though we’re total strangers right now, we already have so much in common with our experience cheering in the NFL. I know we’re only together for a short period of time, but I’m really looking forward to making some fun memories with my talented Pro Bowl sisters!
MCD: What school did you go to?
SB: I went to Virginia Tech! And I was actually lucky enough to cheer there, so I guess you could say cheerleading was my “sorority!” I made a lot of friends on the team, and I still cheer with one of my VT sisters on Ravens, Dana F.! Hokies for life!
MCD: Occupation?
SB: I do event sales and customer relations for a cheerleading company called The Epic Brands.
MCD: Years on team?
SB: This is my second year with the Ravens, and I also cheered for the Tennessee Titans for two
The color purple never looked so good
years before I moved to Baltimore. I’m lucky that I’ve had the experience working for two wonderful organizations.
MCD: Are you in the calendar?
SB: The Ravens took all the girls on the squad to Jamaica, and we’re lucky to have all of our cheerleaders featured in the calendar! As you flip through, you’ll find me in December! I was lucky to have my shoot at the beautiful “Blue Hole!”
MCD: Greatest memory?
SB: Wow, this is a tough one! There are so many! The first time I ran out of the tunnel was exhilarating and definitely unforgettable, but if I had to choose only one, I’d relive the day we played the Minnesota Vikings in 2013! We were lucky to cheer in the most beautiful blizzard, and as one of my teammate’s described, “It was like cheering inside a snow globe!” While it was too slick to stunt during the game and we were freezing cold, it was definitely one of my best games and fondest memories.
MCD: Favorite player?
SB: Of course, I will always support our quarterback, Joe Flacco, but my heart skips a beat when they put in our backup, Tyrod Taylor (I cheered for him in college at Virginia Tech!).
MCD: For those who have never been to your stadium, describe the atmosphere?
SB: I’ve had the opportunity to cheer in two different NFL stadiums, and both are totally unique. The thing I find most fascinating about M&T Bank Stadium is how the fans bring the energy with them to every game. They are incredibly passionate, and they support their team whether we’re up or down- there’s never an empty seat in our house! You should hear them during the National Anthem. I love the “O!” they shout towards the end. It’s very unique to this town because of our baseball team, the Orioles, a.k.a. the “O’s.”
MCD: If you had a Real Housewives intro, what would yours be? Or which Spice Girl?
SB: I can’t think of a good answer for this question… I don’t watch the Real Housewives, and to be honest, I was never a huge Spice Girls fan. If we’re talking about The League, I’m definitely a Jenny MacArthur–a huge football fan who can hang with the guys!
MCD: Who’s your bestie on the squad?
SB: It’s impossible for me to choose only one! I love all my teammates–both guys and girls! The Ravens are unique in that our team is split between stunt (which is coed) and dance. Because I work more with the stunt team throughout the year, I’ve developed a really strong bond with that group. I feel like I have to recognize my stunt partner, Greg! He’s the one who catches me and keeps me safe throughout the season!
MCD: Biggest misconception about NFL cheerleaders?
SB: There are so many misconceptions, but I think one of the biggest ones I face with the Ravens is that NFL cheerleading is only dance. Please don’t get me wrong, I LOVE dancing, and of course that’s what we’ll be doing at the Pro Bowl! But the Ravens are unlike most other teams in the NFL because in addition to dancing, we also throw co-ed stunts, pyramids and tumbling during the games. This adds another element of athletic ability to NFL cheerleading. Because we do so much acrobatics, our practices are extremely rigorous with a lot more risk involved. While it is more dangerous, I think that element of risk adds excitement for us and for our fans.
She must workout. (Yes, Stephanie takes great pride in her workout routines)
MCD: What charity is nearest and dearest to your heart?
SB: The Ravens Cheerleaders do a lot of work with the Ronald McDonald House. Once or twice a month, we’ll visit the Baltimore house to do crafts and play games with the children. These families are going through so much, and organizations like the Ronald McDonald house really seem to offer some relief and comfort while moms and dads can focus their time and energy on what’s really important–their child’s health.
MCD: If you could only dance/perform to one artist for the entire season, who would it be?
SB: I love rock music, so I’d have to say the late, great, Ronnie James,a.k.a. “DIO!” He’s certainly not your typical NFL cheer-style music, but his songs are classics!
MCD: What’s the most embarrassing/random thing we’d find in your recent Google history?
SB: We visited with the kids at Ronald McDonald House on Monday, and I was trying to find fun things for us to do with the kids, so I Googled “New Year’s crafts.” I’m not sure if you’d consider it random, but it’s not something I search for often!
MCD: Since you’re so busy getting ready for the games, (sadly) you miss one of my favorite parts – tailgating! If you were asked to bring one thing, what would it be?
SB: Hands down, I’ll bring the crab dip! My dad has the most amazing secret recipe! And in our city, no tailgate is complete without some kind of crab dish! Welcome to Bal’mer, hon!
MCD: I know a huge part of being an NFL cheerleader is visiting/spending time with the military (which I love!). If you could give a message to those who serve our country and fight for our freedom, what would you say?
SB:These men and women make incredible sacrifices to protect our many freedoms. I’d like to express how grateful I am for everything they do. I may wear purple on game day, but I’m red, white and blue in my heart!
MCD: Look in your purse/bag right now – what’s the most random thing in there?
SB: Ha! I just looked! A banana! When we leave the stadium after home games, we walk by a few homeless people, and my teammates and I try to bring something to give them–sometimes gloves, hats, snacks… This past Sunday after we played the Browns it happened to be bananas, and I had one left over! Hello, afternoon snack!
MCD: Favorite book?
SB: I love biographies. I think it’s fascinating to read about people’s back-stories, how they grew up, and how they ultimately became successful. One of the most entertaining books I’ve read has to be Bossypants by Tina Fey. If you haven’t read it, it will definitely put a smile on your face!
MCD: Cheerleaders are known for taking the perfect selfies – probably more so than Kim Kardashian – what’s your secret to a perfect selfie?
SB: Always include a friend! Selfies with friends are way more fun!
MCD: Twerking: Fun while it lasted or wish it never started?
SB: I was never much of a “twerker,” but after seeing some of my talented teammates, I have to say fun while it lasted.
MCD: Time for hobbies?
SB: Yes! I’m obsessed with karaoke! My karaoke spot in Baltimore is Max’s in Fells Point! I love to sing rock (Ronnie James “Dio,” KISS, and Motley Cru), but occasionally I’ll add in a Nicki Minaj song! Remember, karaoke is 90% stage presence, 10% talent! It’s all about putting on a good show!
MCD: What’s the team’s character like?
SB: The best way to describe our team’s character would be fearless. Our girls fly in so many stunts and pyramids, and as much as we strive for perfection, falling is inevitable. What I’ve learned is that no matter how hard you fall, it’s essential that you get back up and keep trying. Even though we all come from different backgrounds, all the men and women on our team have that fearless attitude, and I love that about us! If we fall, we fall, but we never stay down.
MCD: Homebody or an adventurer?
SB: I’m definitely a homebody. After I’m done with work, practice and the gym, I love to put my feet up and just watch TV or do a few cryptograms to unwind.
MCD: What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done?
SB: I competed on American Ninja Warrior, season six, in Denver. I didn’t do very well, but I’m considering giving it a second shot this season! It’s very intense and training for the course is very difficult. Agility and grip strength are essential!
MCD: Tell me something about you people would find completely interesting?
SB: People would be surprised to find out that I’m low-maintenance. I’m not a huge fan of name-brand items. My game-day lipstick was 99 cents from Wet n Wild, and it still looks fabulous! And of course I feel like a star when I’m all done up in game day hair and makeup, but I feel just as beautiful when I’m makeup-free with a ball-cap and t-shirt. It doesn’t matter how expensive your clothes are or where you get your makeup from…It’s all about feeling beautiful on the inside.

If you’re a proud owner of a 2014 Atlanta Falcons Cheerleader calendar, odds are you’re already familiar with my friend Alice, who reps not only Miss October 2014, but December as well (your calendar should already be turned to her page if you’re keeping up).
She’s smart, she’s beautiful, she’s in great shape, she has a practically unmatched sense of humor and she speaks in hashtags – only sometimes, when talking about her Alma Mater. As much as Alice loves being an NFL cheerleader, she realizes that it’s “icing on the cake,” and only lasts for a short time, which is why she’s making her mark and enjoying every second of it. Personally, I’m a big fan of women with enough drive and confidence to book a one-way ticket, no matter the reason. Also, how can you not love a woman who grew up in a funeral home?
Here’s the Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders captain in her own words…
Man Cave Daily: Where are you originally from?
Alice: Eden, NC
MCD: What school did you go to? Were you in a sorority?
A: East Carolina University #arrrrgh
No sorority, but I was on the dance team, which was basically like a sorority since we spent all of our time together even when we weren’t at practice or games.
MCD: Occupation?
A: Pure Barre Studio Director & Pure Barre Instructor–I basically get to work in the most positive atmosphere ever, share my passion of health & fitness with wonderful people, and wear fashionable workout clothes. Pretty much the best job ever and I’m so happy.
MCD: Years on team?
A: This is my fourth year on the team, second year as captain. I actually made it on my first try, took a one-way flight to ATL and hoped for the best. Somehow everything has fallen into place since then.
MCD: Are you in the swimsuit calendar?
A: Yes, I was Miss October 2014 in our latest swimsuit calendar. I’m also Miss December 2014 in last year’s calendar as well. Our calendars are usually 14-16 months so sometimes they overlap. So I just kind of took over the fall of 2014.
MCD: Greatest memory so far?
A: I have so many amazing memories, but I’d have to say it would be our recent game in London. The atmosphere in London and Wembley Stadium was just incomparable to anything I have ever been around. We were lucky enough to perform with “Little Mix,” a very popular British girl group. I think I may want to pursue being a back-up dancer after performing with them, it was the most fun I’ve ever had. The entire trip just exceeded my expectations, and everyone was so incredibly nice and welcoming. It was great to get to spend some time with my teammates and tour around London a bit as well.
MCD: Favorite player?
A: My favorite player would have to be Matt Ryan. I just feel like he represents the Atlanta
Alice: Equal parts beauty and humor
Falcons organization the best, on and off the field. He continues to give 100% to the team, regardless of a winning or losing season.
MCD: For those who have never been to your stadium, describe the atmosphere?
A: Our games are in the Dome, right in the heart of downtown Atlanta. With an enclosed dome the sound can get pretty loud, and I think that is why we have been so successful playing when we are at home. We also play a lot of hip-hop, pop & old school jams that really get the crowd going! During the game they release thousands of parachutes with t-shirts attached and of course free shirts will get anyone excited and it’s really cool to see. They are actually building our brand new dome right next door, which will have a retractable roof (should be awesome!).
MCD: If you had a Real Housewives intro, what would yours be?
A: Hmmm I actually thought about this the other day when I was watching the RHOBH but it would be something like “I always want to be proud of my decisions in life, and I always want to have something to look forward to…”
MCD: Who’s your bestie on the squad?
A: No bestie on the squad this year, lots of wonderful friends though. All my besties retired last season and I decided to try out one last year!
MCD: Biggest misconception about cheerleaders?
A: I’d say the biggest misconception is that we don’t have a career beyond the pom-poms. I can say with confidence that every single one of my teammates has a full-time job, career, or is a full-time student. Our team is built around women that inspire each other. We all have a passion for performing and cheering on our team, but we also have career goals we are working to. Cheering is the icing on the cake, and it only lasts for a short time.
MCD: What charity is nearest and dearest to your heart and why?
A: American Cancer Society is an organization that is very important to me. I have many friends & family that have been affected by cancer and the more support to find cures, the better we are.
MCD: If you could only dance/perform to one artist for the entire season, who would it be?
A: I could definitely dance to Michael Jackson all season long, I mean the hits are endless. My current alarm is “Pretty Young Thing.” Classic.
MCD: Most embarrassing/random thing we’d find in your recent Google history?
A: I Google literally everything from…”What is casual-chic?” to “Why is this plant I bought last week already dead?”
MCD: I know a huge part of being an NFL cheerleader is visiting/spending time with the military (which I love!). If you could give a message to those who serve our country and fight for our freedom, what would you say?
A: I actually had the honor of visiting some of our troops in Japan this past January, and it was just an unforgettable experience to see these people devoting their lives to protecting our country and freedom. I really respect each and every person in our military and the sacrifices they have made.
MCD: Look in your purse/bag right now – what’s the most random thing in there?
A: My dead Jambox…I’m still hoping it will come back to life and provide me with my tunes. It died in a hairspray explosion, probably the best way to go. I also am old school and keep all my ideas/reminders on sticky notes, so there are probably at least 15 sticky notes in my bag.
MCD: Favorite book/magazine/website?
A: I would love to set aside more time to read, in the past I have always enjoyed any type of mystery books. I must confess that I started reading the Pretty Little Liars series and I finished up to book 13. Once I realized it was listed as “children’s fiction” I realized I should probably broaden my genre of reading materials.
MCD: Cheerleaders are known for taking the perfect selfies – probably more so than Kim Kardashian – what’s your secret to a perfect selfie?
A: I always feel really awkward when I take a selfie, so it’s not that frequent of an occurrence. It’s either on game day when I’ve spent all morning getting ready or when I’ve just gotten my hair done at the salon and I just feel fabulous (also rare).
MCD: Twerking: Fun while it lasted or wish it never started?
A: No, just no.
MCD: Any time for hobbies or interests?
A: Everyone should always make time for hobbies! I like knitting scarves. I know it sounds old school and crazy but it’s actually relaxing and I’m going to be extra warm this winter. I also bought a Go Pro before we went to London, so now I’m obsessed with videoing and editing. I made a video of our entire trip and now I want to document everything about my last season.
MCD: What’s the team’s character like?
A: Our coach pushes us to be “WOW Women” as she calls it. We are very fortunate to be in an organization where we are encouraged to pursue our dreams. Each of my teammates has a career and/or some type of aspiration in life that continues to push them to be the incredible women they are. I’m inspired each day by all of them. My coach is incredibly important to the teams’ character, she is a counselor and I always feel like she understands us to the very core.
MCD: Homebody or an adventurer?
A: I’d say I’m most of an adventurer but I enjoy staying home once in a while and just relaxing in silence. I really enjoy traveling and I get restless if I don’t have a trip at least once a month. Most of the time I will be either traveling to L.A., Austin, or NC to visit family. Even Europe once in a while (when I can save up) and visit some other family. I love exploring new areas and restaurants in Atlanta too, there is always something new popping up around here!
MCD: What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done?
A: I feel like I have done a lot of adventurous things in my life with the places I have traveled and the people I have met. But, none of this would have been possible if I had never left NC. So I have to say, taking a one-way flight to ATL in the hopes of making the team as an Atlanta Falcons Cheerleader (with NO back-up plan) and moving here was the most adventurous thing I have done. I’m from a town of 16,000 people and the town where I went to school was also small…so when someone leaves to go to “the big city” and makes a life there, it’s a huge deal for us small-town folk.
MCD: Tell me something about you people would find completely interesting/out of character?
A: Something interesting about me…I actually grew up in my family’s funeral home, it’s right next to my house so that’s where I spent a lot of my time growing up and I even worked there every summer. It’s a little different, but it’s always been my normal when I go home… Go by the funeral home and hang out with my dad & uncle and catch up on everything while I’m home, help out when I can.
We didn’t even talk about the funeral home! Go to her bonus gallery and see how growing up in one makes her the coolest crush we’ve ever had!

She’s not afraid to dance in front of 60,000 screaming fans, she’s not afraid of becoming online besties with The Blonde Side, and she’s not afraid of wetting her pants in her soccer photo and giving up on the sport completely. Or at least admitting it to everyone on the World Wide Web.
Her mother once said she cried when Michelle “quit sports,” but with dance moves like these, Michelle is most definitely still an athlete.
Work brought her to St. Louis and cheering kept her there – for five years. A five-year veteran as a St. Louis Rams cheerleader, Michelle has pretty much seen and done it all, including being a captain for two seasons, going to the 2013 Pro Bowl, touring Japan, and not to mention dancing pregame with the popular band Train. And there’s more. A lot more.
Oh, and Katy Perry–if you’re listening–Michelle has a message just for you that includes her phone number.
Man Cave Daily: Where are you originally from?
M: Columbus, OH
MCD: What school did you go to?
M: I attended the University of Cincinnati where I was a member of the UC Dance Team, and was also in Pi Beta Phi. I ended up transferring to the University of Missouri after I moved to St. Louis for an internship. While interning I tried out for the Rams cheerleading team, made the squad, and decided to stay in the city and transferred schools. I graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Marketing.
MCD: Occupation?
M: I am a marketing coordinator for AEG Live, where we produce several concerts, tours, and music festivals worldwide.
MCD: Years on team? Did you try out multiple times before making it?
M: I (fortunately) made it my first try, and am currently in my fifth season with the St. Louis Rams.
MCD: Are you in the calendar?
M: Our squad is very lucky and every single girl is featured in the calendar each year. For this season’s calendar I am Miss July 2015!
MCD: Greatest memory?
M: During my third season I was chosen to represent the St. Louis Rams at the 2013 Pro Bowl, followed by a goodwill tour across Japan to visit the troops with Pro Tour Productions. I honestly cannot even put into words what an amazing impact those two weeks had on my life. I still keep in contact with many of the girls, and am so grateful for those friendships. Pro Bowl week was filled with many unbelievable experiences. We got to visit some amazing kids at local hospitals around Honolulu, met fans from all over the world, got to perform the pregame with Train, performed during the game with DJ Steve Aoki, and were surrounded by some of the best NFL players of all time. Two years later, I am still in shock that I was chosen to represent my team, and am eternally indebted to the Rams organization for giving me that opportunity.
MCD: Favorite player?
M: Right now our locker room is full of players who embody the St. Louis Rams community spirit and do so while letting their fun personalities shine through. Although I couldn’t say I have a favorite, Johnny Hekker really stands out as someone to emulate. He was a walk on at Oregon State and then an undrafted free agent in the NFL. Last year he earned his spot at the 2014 Pro Bowl, and is now known as one of the best punters in the league. If that’s not hard work and determination, I’m not sure what is. Also, this year he was selected as the St. Louis Rams Walter Peyton Man of the Year for his community work. I believe he is a true inspiration to all the young football players looking up to him.
MCD: If you had a Real Housewives intro, what would yours be? OR which Spice Girl would you be?
M: I have to be the only girl my age on this planet that has never seen a single Real Housewivesshow. So, I’m not sure what my intro would be, but it would obviously be something spectacular. As for a Spice Girl, I would be Sporty Spice all the way! I’ve always been addicted to working out, and I remember growing up I dressed up as Sporty Spice a few times for Halloween. This included using red food dye to color my bangs red, just like hers!
MCD: Who’s your bestie on the squad?
M: My best friend on the squad is the girl who has been with me since day one. Kayla and I both tried out and made it in 2010, and have been each other’s “person” on the squad ever since. We have traveled the world together, been through the ups and downs of cheerleading and life, and will be in each others weddings one day. I am so appreciative to the Rams for all of the friendships I have made with my teammates, because I know we will be friends for the rest of our lives, and those types of relationships are hard to come across.
MCD: Biggest misconception about cheerleaders?
M: Many people are shocked to learn that all NFL cheerleaders are required to have a full-time job, or be a full-time student. Each team is filled with doctors, lawyers, military
Too much NFL amazingness in one photo
members, nurses, moms, students, business owners, and so much more. I am so proud of my teammates and all of their accomplishments, and I want the world to see that.
MCD: What charity is nearest and dearest to your heart and why?
M: Not so much a “charity,” but all of the work we do with the military has really impacted my life. I have had several family members in the military, including my brother who is currently stationed in Italy with the U.S. Air Force. Getting to visit the troops all over the world, and see all the behind-the-scenes work has been really eye opening. Everyone knows these men and women bust their butts for our freedom, but you really cannot comprehend that until you see it first-hand. I am forever thankful for the military, and they truly deserve all the praise they get, and merit more.
MCD: If you could only dance/perform to one artist for the entire season, who would it be?
M: Katy Perry, 100%. I am so excited to see her perform at the Super Bowl this year, and am already extremely jealous of all the girls that will get to dance with her. I have a dream of being one of her backup dancers one day. KATY IF YOU’RE HIRING, GIVE ME A CALL!
MCD: What’s the most embarrassing/random thing we’d find in your recent Google history?
M: I am known as the “Google Queen” to my friends. My biggest pet peeve is not knowing something, so I’m Googling probably 25+ a day. Embarrassing. My recent searches include: how to bring a plant back to life, Jamba Juice menu calories, Garth Brooks’s hometown (went to his concert last night, UNREAL), Title Boxing class schedule, frosted or iced animal cookies (don’t ask), and best things to do in Paris.
MCD: Since you’re so busy getting ready for the games, (sadly) you miss one of my favorite parts – tailgating! If you were asked to bring one thing, what would it be?
M: I made apple pie salsa with cinnamon pita chips for Thanksgiving this year, and I think it would be the perfect tailgating dish. It was so simple to make, and so incredibly delicious.
MCD: I know a huge part of being an NFL cheerleader is visiting/spending time with the military–if you could give a message to those who serve our country and fight for our freedom, what would you say?
M: The military is near and dear to my heart. I pray for them every day, and hope that they will make it home safely to their families and friends. These men and women put their lives on the line every single day for us, for our freedom, and for our country. There is honestly nothing we can do to repay them for that, except show our gratitude and give thanks every single day.
MCD: Look in your purse/bag right now – what’s the most random thing in there?
Yes, Michelle is definitely a perfect calendar girl
M: A measuring cup… All my shakers were dirty this morning, and I am very adamant about having the right protein to water ratio (yes, I am extremely OCD).
MCD: Favorite book/magazine/website?
M: Favorite Book: Anything by Jodi Picoult. I own every single one of her books, and each new one that comes out is somehow always better than the last. Favorite Magazine: Women’s Health Magazine. I am addicted to the gym and working out, so this magazine just speaks my language. I love all the new workout tips and recipes featured in each issue. Favorite Website: I am addicted to Google. Ask me anything, bet I know the answer (or I will Google it and find out for you).
MCD: Cheerleaders are known for taking the perfect selfies – probably more so than Kim Kardashian – what’s your secret to a perfect selfie?
M: I have never posted a selfie, true story. I refuse. No one wants to see my face that much, or that up close. As for other pictures, my secret is the app called Facetune. LIFE. CHANGER.
MCD: Twerking: Fun while it lasted or wish it never started?
M: A little twerking never hurt anyone.
MCD: Time for hobbies or interests?
M: Between my job, cheerleading, working out, taking care of my puppy, and finding time for friends and family, it doesn’t leave much room for anything else. In my very limited free time I enjoy traveling the world, visiting my family, working out, and cooking. I picked my current apartment based on the kitchen space. I needed to make sure I had enough room to try lots of new recipes.
MCD: What’s the team’s character like?
M: Our team is one of the most versatile groups I have ever been a part of. We have 18-year-olds and 34-year-olds. Girls just starting college and girls with doctorates. I think this versatility makes us work and gives our team character. We all have so much to learn from one another, and I think that is what brings us together. Every single girl has something different to offer, and it is truthfully a remarkable gift to be a part of this group.
MCD: Homebody or an adventurer?
M: I am an adventurer, through and through. I love exploring, traveling, and being spontaneous. I am on a mission to fill up my passport in the next few years. Don’t get me wrong though, I also love a night at home with some red wine and my favorite buddy, Netflix.
MCD: So what’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done?
M: I moved to St. Louis. It might not sound that adventurous, but I moved here at the age of 20 for a three-month-long internship. I didn’t know a single soul in the city, and was honestly ready to move back to Ohio the first chance I got. After trying out and making Rams, I decided to stay here and it was one of the best, and scariest decisions I have ever made. I have now been here for 4.5 years and wouldn’t trade it for the world.
MCD: Tell me something about you people would find completely interesting?
M: I haven’t eaten red meat in about twenty years, literally. Didn’t like steak the first time I tried it, and never gave it a second chance. I honestly wouldn’t even know how to order a steak or burger if my life depended on it. There are perks to this though; I’m a cheap date.
Just one more reason to love Michelle. Check out the full catalog of them in her bonus gallery.

She can dance, she looks amazing in a swimsuit (and anything teal), she is always on a mission for adventure, believes one wish can change the course of one’s life and isn’t afraid to admit she’s an avid fan of both Taylor Swift and Blake Bortles (for different reasons obviously). Meet Jessica K., beautiful member of The ROAR of the Jaguars, for the second straight year.
She may be an intimidating knockout in her ROAR uniform but underneath it all, she really is the girl next door–happy with a cold beer and potato chips, a good book, or an adventure wherever it may lead.
Here’s a look at our exclusive interview with this blonde bombshell:
Man Cave Daily: Where are you originally from?
Jessica: Phoenix, Arizona.
MCD: What school did you go to?
J: Arizona State University.
MCD: Occupation?
J: I am a full-time nanny for twin boys.
MCD: Years on team?
J: This is my second season on the ROAR. I was lucky enough to make the team the first time I auditioned!
MCD: Are you in the calendar?

J: Cheering on the Jaguars at the Wembley Stadium in London for the past two years, and traveling to the British Virgin Islands to shoot our calendar this summer.
MCD: Favorite player?
J: I am a big fan of our new quarterback Blake Bortles because he brings a new energy to our team and our fans.
MCD: For those who have never been to your stadium, describe the atmosphere?
J: Everbank Field is now home to the world’s largest video scoreboards (which are absolutely AMAZING!). We also have new swimming pools in the Clevelander Deck where there is a DJ and cabanas to watch the game from. These renovations have been a huge success and made our game day experience really unique and unlike any other stadium. The fans are always wonderful and high energy, which makes our job a blast!
MCD: Which Spice Girl would you be?
J: Growing up I was always “Baby Spice” because of my blonde hair, but “Posh Spice” is my favorite!
MCD: Biggest misconception about cheerleaders?
J: The biggest misconception about cheerleaders in general is that we are dumb! Members of The ROAR of the Jaguars this year include an attorney, pharmacist, physical therapist, registered nurses, elementary and high school teachers, and special education teacher to name a few.
MCD: What charity is nearest and dearest to your heart and why?
J: I am a big fan of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, because I believe that a wish experience
The Blonde Side (middle) with Rachel (left) and Jessica (right) of The ROAR of the Jaguars
can truly bring a child joy and change their life.
MCD: If you could only dance/perform to one artist for the entire season, who would it be?
J: Taylor Swift of course!
MCD: What’s the most random thing we’d find in your recent Google history?
J: I am obsessed with Kylie Jenner and her makeup, so I Googled “Kylie Jenner’s lip color” yesterday before I went to the makeup store…embarrassing, I know.
MCD: Since you’re so busy getting ready for the games, (sadly) you miss one of my favorite parts – tailgating! If you were asked to bring one thing, what would it be?
J: Corona Light with lime and BBQ potato chips!
MCD: I know a huge part of being an NFL cheerleader is visiting/spending time with the military. If you could give a message to those who serve our country and fight for our freedom, what would you say?
J: Thank you for your service and for defending our freedom!
MCD: Look in your purse/bag right now – what’s the most random thing in there?
J: Pepper spray, always.
MCD: Favorite book?
J: My new favorite book is Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand. I wanted to read it before the movie came out and I am very glad I did!
MCD: Cheerleaders are known for taking the perfect selfies – probably more so than Kim Kardashian – what’s your secret to a perfect selfie?
J: I admit I take way too many selfies, and natural light is my secret to the perfect one!
MCD: Twerking: Fun while it lasted or wish it never started?
J: A little of both.
MCD: Any hobbies?
J: My boyfriend and I are total adventure junkies. Every weekend when there is free time we love to go hiking, bike riding, kayaking, swimming in the ocean, etc.!
MCD: What’s the team’s character like?
J: All of the women on the team are very sweet and supportive of one another this year. I have really learned how to be a team player, and as a veteran I have really enjoyed helping the rookies out this year!
MCD: Homebody or an adventurer?
J: Adventurer!
MCD: So what’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done?
J: I went out into the Florida Everglades this summer for the first time, and took an airboat out with the wild crocodiles!
MCD: Tell me something about you people would find completely interesting/out of character?
J: I LOVE to snowboard, which is almost unheard of here in Jacksonville.

Trevor Ariza of the Houston Rockets (photo courtesy of Houston Rockets)
For Houston Rocket Trevor Ariza, Home is Where the Family is.
They say the third time’s a charm. Now in his third stint in Houston (first when he was 11 years old living in Alief, and again as a member of the ’09-’10 Rockets), Trevor finds himself back in Clutch City, this time with more confidence, defensive abilities and most importantly, his family.
Ariza made his way to Houston during the 2009–2010 season after a trade worth $33mil over five years using the Disabled Player Exception the Rockets were given in exchange for injured Yao Ming. He was then traded to the Hornets and Wizards before returning back to Houston last July. Ariza grew up in the league. He entered the league when he was just 19 and admits he’s learned a lot throughout his 10-year career (more than 650 games!). Mostly, he’s learned patience. “I definitely have more patience. I’ve learned to not …well, I try not to wear my emotions on my sleeve. I try to stay even-keeled, play my heart out and let the chips fall where they may.”
A true West-Coaster (he refers to 59 as “the 59” when talking horrendous traffic), Ariza is slowly getting used to life in Bellaire. Referred to by some as an “NBA vagabond,” Ariza says it’s his family (his wife, 3 kids and 70lb German Shepherd, Bowser) that really makes it home. “Having my family here is definitely part of that – my family is the most important thing to me – everything feels like home as long as they’re around,” he says.
The small forward also attributes the team. “Just being here with the
support of the organization is great; they welcomed me in with open
arms – the coaches, front office and my teammates especially. We’re
almost like brothers,” he says of his fellow players, especially Francisco Garcia who he says he has the most in common with. He laughs at inadvertently adding an adjective in front of the numbered highway, and says even though traffic is pretty awful, he still thinks pickup trucks are “pretty dope.” “I have one myself. I guess I’m part of Texas culture,” he says, laughing of his lifted Chevy Silverado.
RANDOM THOUGHTS (AND FAVORITES) FROM TREVOR ARIZA
“I think some of the stuff Clutch does is amazing. I saw him on one of those big balls shooting free throws –I’ve never seen that before –that was pretty dope.”
“I definitely enjoy seeing Bun B at games. He’s one of my favorite rappers; he’s a legend here in Texas.”
“My family loves Discovery Green –they just like to go out and play. And there’s a dog park close to my house.”

Playing at NRG Stadium in front of a crowd of 71,795, the Texans were founded in 2002 and are in the AFC South, with their biggest rival still being the Indianapolis Colts. Led by Coach Bill O’Brien, the team’s third coach in franchise history, the Texans have sold out every preseason, regular and post-season game since their inception. The offensive line, led by Chris Myers and Duane Brown, dedicated the 2014 season to David Quessenberry (#DQStrong) who was diagnosed with lymphoma in June. JJ Watt is on a path to becoming yet again the Defensive Player of the Year and perhaps even the league’s MVP – having already recorded 50+ sacks in his first four seasons – making him only the fifth player to do so (since 1982). Watt is also the first defensive lineman since 1944 to score at least five touchdowns in a season. The 2014 regular season was riddled with injuries including both quar- terbacks, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Ryan Mallet. The Texans also suffered a setback after their number one draft pick Jadaveon Clowney had a rookie season that looked like this: 4 games, 7 tackles, 0 sacks, 3 surgeries (hernia and knee twice). Next season proves to be an interesting one – the quarterback and beyond.

By now it’s certainly no secret that most NFL cheerleaders would dance to Beyonce all day every day if given the option, but these ladies are about as unique and interesting as you could imagine. Sure they’re all into fitness and huge fans of their respective teams, but with an entrepreneurial spirit like Kristy, the beautiful gal who represents the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleadersin this series, you’ll see they are more diverse than you could imagine.
This glamour of the North cakepop-baker, do-gooder and guacamole-lover explains why it’s not so incredibly random to carry a teasing comb with you wherever you go and that twerking is in fact, still a thing. As it should be. Miley probably agrees.
You can find this beauty on the sidelines, on a boat, or even on the floor of her living room scrapbooking away her favorite memories, but for now…you can find her right here with this exclusive interview with ManCave Daily.
Man Cave Daily: Where are you originally from?
Kristy: Vadnais Heights, Minnesota
MCD: What school did you go to?
K: I went to the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul and received my bachelor’s degree in marketing. Go Tommies!
MCD: Occupation?
K: I’m an entrepreneur. I own my own boutique in Minneapolis called Blush by kay. We carry women’s clothing and accessories. I absolutely LOVE my job!
MCD: Years on team?
K: This is my third year with the Vikings Cheerleaders. I was lucky enough to make it my first year trying out, but I had been dancing 19 years prior to trying out so I had quite a bit of experience.
MCD: Are you in the calendar?
K: I am in the calendar, in fact our whole team is! I get to represent April this year! Instead of doing a swimsuit calendar, our team did a fitness-themed calendar. Each page has its own fitness tip. It’s been really fun to try a different concept and the fans love it!
MCD: So what’s your fitness tip?
K: My fitness tip is taking bar classes for a full-body exercise. I was thrilled to get this fitness tip. Before I had made the MVC I had been taking ballet for over 15 years so bar classes were a familiar workout for me!
MCD: Greatest memory so far?
K: I’ve made so many amazing memories it’s hard to pick just one but if I had to I would pick our trip to London last year. The Vikings were one of the teams chosen to play in the International Series against the Steelers. The amazing people we met and the events we got to attend were truly life changing. Plus, the Vikes won! It was seriously the adventure of a lifetime.
MCD: Had you ever been to London before? What was your favorite part?
The Blonde Side has good taste in interviewing cover girls
K: Prior to our trip, I had never been to London or anywhere in Europe! My favorite part was one particular day of appearances–we started the day off with a photo shoot on the Millennium Bridge. It was one of the most beautiful places I’ve been in my life and we were somehow lucky enough to do a photo shoot there. Between the actual shoot and the scenic background of the city it was like we were living in a dream. From there we did an appearance at the British Broadcasting Corporation. The BBC is the oldest and largest broadcaster in the world. We surprised one of the hosts and did a few skits with him, one of which included dressing him up in a cheerleader costume and teaching him a cheer. We spent the rest of the day exploring the city and learning more about the art and architecture. It was the most amazing day and something I’ll never forget!
MCD: Favorite player?
K: Everson Griffen (Defensive End for the Vikings). I’ve gotten the chance to do a few charity appearances with him and he is one of the funniest guys I’ve ever met. He loves getting out in the community and making a difference, even with his busy schedule. Not to mention, he has so much talent and keeps impressing us more each year!
MCD: For those who have never been to your stadium, describe the atmosphere.
K: This year the Vikings are playing at a different venue while our new stadium is being built! For the next two years we will be at TCF Bank Stadium, home to the University of Minnesota Gopher’s. It’s an outdoor stadium which is so much fun but an adjustment for everyone since we have always played indoors. It may get a little chilly towards the end of the season but it’s fun experiencing all the elements.
MCD: If you had a Real Housewives intro, what would yours be?
K: Whether I’m designing my store or cheering on the field I’m the glamour of the North.
MCD: Biggest misconception about cheerleaders?
K: The biggest misconception about cheerleaders is that we don’t eat. Believe me, we eat plenty! We work really hard to be in shape by eating the right things and exercising daily.
MCD: What charity is nearest and dearest to your heart?
K:The Vikings Children Fund is my favorite charity. It raises money for pediatric cancer research at the University of Minnesota. Raising money for VCF is a huge part of being on our team. A portion of the proceeds from our calendar sales goes towards the fund. We also do various charity appearances throughout the year, which raise money for the VCF as well. It’s so much fun to raise awareness for the charity and you feel great about supporting such a good cause.
MCD: If you could only dance/perform to one artist for the entire season, who would it be?
K: I would have to go with Beyonce. Her style of music fits most of our dances perfectly and it’s pretty easy to get pumped up listening to it.
MCD: What’s the most embarrassing/random thing we’d find in your recent Google history?
K: My last Google search was “Goldador Puppies” I have a dog obsession. I try to convince my boyfriend to get one every day.
MCD: Since you’re so busy getting ready for the games, (sadly) you miss one of my favorite parts–tailgating! If you were asked to bring one thing, what would it be?
K: I would definitely be making guacamole. It’s my go-to dish to share for any event. Everybody loves guac!
Purple is definitely Kristy’s color. Every color is probably her color actually.
D: I know a huge part of being an NFL cheerleader is visiting/spending time with the military–if you could give a message to those who serve our country and fight for our freedom, what would you say?
K: Thank you for defending our freedom and providing us with safety every day! We appreciate you more than you know. God bless you!
MCD: Look in your purse/bag right now–what’s the most random thing in there?
K: A teasing comb…not so random for a cheerleader though!
MCD: Favorite book/magazine/website?
K: My favorite magazine is probably Cosmopolitan. I don’t get a ton of time to sit down with a good book but right now I’m reading The Fault in Our Stars. A little bit of a tear-jerker, so good though!
MCD: Twerking: Fun while it lasted or wish it never started?
K: Neither–our team still loves the twerking fad. One of our team captains, Jacqui is a professional twerker.
MCD: You’ve obviously got a full schedule. Any time for hobbies or interests?
K: I love doing pretty much anything outdoors. Boating on the lake is probably my favorite activity in my free time. I also love to scrapbook. Right now I’m working on a scrapbook for every year I’ve cheered.
MCD: What’s the team’s character like? What have you learned since joining?
K: Our team is the perfect combination of just about every character. We have the perfect balance. I’ve found that you can really learn something new from every teammate. We have such a wide variety of life experiences and ages on our team. Everybody has something really important to contribute. It’s so important to get to know each member of the team. Not many people are blessed to have a family of 35 amazing women to learn from.
MCD: Homebody or an adventurer?
K: I’m a little bit of both. I love to travel and experience new things but when I get a free second it can be nice to stay in and relax. One of my favorite things to do at home is bake! I have a big sweet tooth but it’s also a stress reliever for me. My favorite things to bake are my famous cakebatter cake pops!
MCD: OK Miss Adventurer, what’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done?
K: The most adventurous thing I’ve done is starting my company at 23. Probably the scariest thing too, but so rewarding!
MCD: Touché, that is rather adventurous I must say, kudos to you!
We can’t get enough of Kristy–find out the reasons we think she’s great in her bonus gallery!

Emily G. is definitely a good reason to brave the cold winter football season!
The Denver Broncos Cheerleaders (DBC) are as classy and illustrious as their players and Emily G. is certainly no exception to this widely-known and accepted NFL fact. Denver sports (and their ladies of course) just breed a sense of excellence, united in orange and competing until the very end.
If Peyton Manning is your number one reason for watching the Broncos, then Emily G. is probably a close second. She’s up for a challenge, whether it’s learning a new dance routine, teaching a new dance routine, or just living life to the fullest and taking dares while on vacation.
She’s the perfect combination of prim and proper and hardcore football knowledge, has a sensitive side and isn’t afraid to show it, and would probably put on a jersey and try out as running back if she could. And she never takes herself too seriously, especially in selfies.
Take a look at our interview with Emily G. and see for yourself how awesome she is. Read the words first, then the pictures, ok?
Man Cave Daily: Where are you originally from?
Emily G.: I am a Colorado native! I was born and raised in Arvada, CO, a suburb of Denver.
MCD: What school did you go to?
EG: I attended the University of Colorado Boulder. I was a member of the CU Express Dance team for my first three years. We would perform at football games, men’s and women’s basketball games, and volleyball games. GO BUFFS!
MCD: I’ve been to Boulder – it’s pretty unique. Five words to describe it?
EG: Eclectic, healthy, community, outdoorsy, and breathtaking.
MCD: Occupation?
EG: Right now I am a triple threat when it comes to occupation! During the day I work full-time at a mortgage company. In the evening, when I’m not at practice with my teammates, I continue my passion for dance by teaching at a local dance studio, and also coaching the Denver Broncos Sparkle All-Star team. Teaching is one of my passions and I’m very fortunate to be able to share my love of dance with children.
MCD: Years on team?
EG: I have been a Denver Broncos Cheerleader (DBC) for the past two seasons.
MCD: I hear it’s a tough process to make the team – did you make it on your first try?
EG: I tried out two times and made it to finals both times prior to being selected for the 2013
Some of the classiest cheerleaders in the NFL, the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders
squad. It was an amazing learning process and taught me about perseverance in order to reach my goals. I guess you can say third time’s a charm!
MCD: Are you in the calendar?
EG: You can spot me in the 2015 Denver Broncos Cheerleader Calendar! I share the month of January with my lovely teammate Sam! We have two girls dedicated to each month, a cover page, and a schedule page; so all 26 members of our team are featured in the calendar!
MCD: Tell me something random about Sam?
EG: She owns two guinea pigs.
MCD: Greatest memory so far?
EG: My greatest memory as a DBC would have to be cheering at the 2013-2014 AFC Championship game against the Patriots. Sports Authority Field at Mile High can only be described as electric. The atmosphere of the stadium that day was truly incomparable to any other moment I have had at that stadium. Being able to share that moment with my best friends and Broncos Country is a memory I will never forget. With music blaring and confetti falling, I realized one of my dreams would come true! To go travel to the Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos!
MCD: Tell me about the Super Bowl – not many cheerleaders get that amazing opportunity.
EG: The Super Bowl was a trip I will always remember. NYC was buzzing with football fever. Times Square was filled with fans and football. My team and I were lucky enough to appear on The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Crowd Goes Wild, and more. In our spare time we also got to experience all of the great landmarks New York has to offer. I will never forget the feeling of walking out of the Denver Broncos tunnel in MetLife Stadium. The atmosphere was electric and one of my dreams had come true! The production of the game was perfection. There were fireworks, videos, and amazing performers that really made this game stand out. Not to mention I got to spend this amazing trip with 26 of my best friends.
MCD: Favorite player?
EG: Former Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis. If you can believe it, my dream as a little girl was not to cheer for the Broncos but PLAY for the Denver Broncos! After his MVP performance in Super Bowl 32, Terrell Davis became my first football idol. He is the reason I fell in love with the Broncos and the sport. Eventually I would come to the realization I would never play in the NFL, so I decided to pursue my love of dance, and the Broncos in becoming a DBC!
MCD: What position would you be best at?
EG: I would be best at running back if I were to take the field because I could slip through holes the offensive linemen would set up for me!
MCD: For those who have never been to your stadium, describe the atmosphere?
EG: If you have never been to Sports Authority Field at Mile High I would definitely recommend putting it on your list of things to do. The atmosphere on game day is Mile High Magic. Broncos fans are truly the most spirited and die-hard fans in the NFL, and on game day when 76,000 of them fill the stands the energy can be overwhelming. The first time I ever walked (or should I say danced!) onto the field as a DBC I couldn’t help but tear up. The love and passion this city has for the Denver Broncos goes unmatched in the NFL. I am proud to be a member of Broncos Country!
MCD: Which Spice Girl would you be?
Go Broncos Go!
EG: I would be Sporty Spice. Most would probably pin me as Baby Spice since I have the blonde hair, but sports are my thing! I am definitely a tomboy at heart and could spend all my spare time watching Sportscenter, working out, or catching any sporting event in Denver. Not to mention I am very competitive so I’m always looking for new athletic challenges!
MCD: Biggest misconception about cheerleaders?
EG: I have only spent time as a cheerleader for the Denver Broncos so I can only answer for our team, but the biggest misconception is that we don’t follow football knowledge. Surprisingly to most fans, all of the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders are sports fans and follow sports in some degree. Every year at tryouts there is a written football test on general football knowledge and Denver Broncos history knowledge. The test is scored and does have an impact on each woman’s final score! Another fun fact about the Denver Broncos Cheerleader’s is that each year we have a Fantasy Football league for fun! It gets very competitive!
MCD: What’s the most embarrassing/random thing we’d find in your recent Google history?
EG: I think the most random thing you would find in my most recent Google history search would be “scariest haunted tours in Denver,” I guess it isn’t so random because it is October, but I’m very intrigued by hauntings, ghosts and spirits. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays! Even though I may enjoy “real” haunting and ghost stories, you will never catch me in a haunted house!
MCD: What’s your favorite costume you’ve dressed up as?
EG: Definitely Foxy Cleopatra from the movie Goldmember. I loved Beyoncé’s role in that movie and thought it was such a fun character.
MCD: Since you’re so busy getting ready for the games, (sadly) you miss one of my favorite parts – tailgating! If you were asked to bring one thing, what would it be?
EG: I would bring my homemade guacamole. Not to brag or anything but…it’s amazing! It has a little bit of sweet from the avocados and a hint of spice. I am obsessed with spicy food so I of course have to add some jalapeños in the mix.
MCD: I know a huge part of being an NFL cheerleader is visiting/spending time with the military (which I love!). If you could give a message to those who serve our country and fight for our freedom, what would you say?
EG: To our men and women in uniform, past present and future, thank you for your bravery and service. We rely on you for our protection, and our freedom, and for that we will forever honor and respect you. Know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of Americans at every moment. Keep your faith and mind strong through this time and don’t let go of hope. God bless you.
MCD: Look in your purse/bag right now – what’s the most random thing in there?
EG: Five sets of earrings. I’m always on the run so my purse becomes my jewelry box. I usually end up throwing on earrings, a necklace or bracelets last minute before going into work, dinner or an event.
MCD: Cheerleaders are known for taking the perfect selfies – probably moreso than Kim Kardashian – what’s your secret to a perfect selfie?
EG: The key to a perfect selfie is not to take yourself so seriously. The harder you try to get the “perfect selfie” the more awkward it ends up turning out. I will say, that my teammates and I have mastered the art of taking the perfect selfie. Check out our Twitter pages and see for yourself! We get all 26 of us in!
MCD: Hobbies?
EG: Being a Colorado native I love anything outdoors. In my spare time while I’m not dancing or working I love to hike, camp, or just spend time with friends and family in the mountains.
MCD: What’s the team’s character like? What have you learned since joining?
EG: My team’s character is compassionate and bold. The women on my team surprise me everyday with the grace they hold themselves with. They never cease to amaze me with their intelligence and poise. Not only are my teammates articulate and smart they are also bold. The women on my team are witty, humorous and always bring charisma to a conversation. I will honestly say that (they) are my role models in life and I am inspired everyday by their character. I’m lucky to call them my friends.
MCD: Homebody or an adventurer?
EG: I’m definitely an adventurer. I will most likely try anything once. I love to be the person who says they have done something so I’m always up for the challenge.
MCD: So…what’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done?
EG: One of the most adventurous things I’ve done is my friend and I went two hours outside of Cabo San Lucas to dune buggy in the desert. While we were training to be able to drive the dune buggys one of the instructors killed an 8′ rattlesnake right in front of us! After the class we spent a half hour racing around a dirt track in huge dune buggys!
