There are so many fads and trends out there, it’s hard to know which ones work and are worth the money. Emsculpt is one of those that has pretty eye-catching statistics about toning muscle and giving you abs (among other areas they offer to help).
What is Emsculpt? In their own words, Emsculpt is the FDA-cleared, non-invasive device that can help you tone and shape your body into the figure you deserve. It uses specialized high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy to trigger results that diet and exercise can’t provide.
Improve abdominal muscle definition
Lift and shape the buttocks
Sculpt and define the abs
Strengthen the glutes
It essentially builds and tones muscle where you need it most. For me, that was my stomach/abdomen. Give me that six-pack please and thank you.
Emsculpt For My Abdomen
I decided to get Emsculpt for my abs, to help build and tone the muscle, or lack thereof there. My abs have always had stubborn fat and I don’t know if there are enough crunches in the world to balance my wine intake.
It uses HIFEM technology to penetrate the skin to deliver 20,000 supramaximal contractions, which is basically 20,000 crunches in the span of 30 minutes. It’s like working out without actually working out. Imagine if you worked out on top of this crazy treatment – mind.blown.
What Does Treatment Consist Of?
My treatment consisted of four 30-minute treatments/session at The Skin Company in downtown Castle Rock. You go into a private room and let the technician size up your area to see if you can use one or two paddles. For me, they used two, which is like double time (and it’s the same price).
The machine goes up to an intensity of 100 – for my first session, we got up to 75. It’s slightly uncomfortable but doesn’t hurt.
Emsculpt Statistics:
These are all numbers given by the company, but I definitely think they are compelling and worth sharing.
19% reduction in subcutaneous fat
16% increase in muscle mass
Average reduction of 4.4cm
96% satisfaction with treatment results
Is There Any Downtime?
Nope, none, zero. After each of my sessions, I ran errands, met friends for lunch, came back home to work, or even hit up a workout class at Shred415.
When Will You See Results?
I think the standard answer for everyone is that this will vary. For me, I noticed some soreness – like I had just done 20,000 crunches – each day following the treatment. You will see the best results in about 2-4 weeks after treatment, and it will continue to improve (i.e. see more results) for several weeks following your treatments.
My Pro Tip When Doing Emsculpt
I always take my own before and after photos, whether it’s for BOTOX, Emsculpt or a juice cleanse. It’s not that I don’t trust others to do it, but I want to see for myself, and know that the photos haven’t been doctored or edited. I highly recommend this even for something like teeth whitening.
How Much Does Emsculpt In Castle Rock Cost?
Again this varies based on holiday specials, etc. but your consultation is free. Most places will also let you try the device, so you know what it entails (again, not painful) while discussing realistic expectations and if it’s the right treatment for you.
For Emsculpt in Castle Rock, it’s $3,000 for your initial treatment, which is always four complete sessions. They also offer maintenance packages (like before a beach vacation, which I highly recommend).

Another month of social distancing down, and more Amazon purchases I loved, so wanted to share them here. These are all my honest opinions, so check them out, and if you have any must-buys from Amazon, leave me a comment.
Eat Drink Nap Coffee Table Book – Part of decorating our new house are little things like coffee table books, and this one has been sold out for months, but I finally snagged it on Amazon a few weeks ago.
Designer Inspired Silver and Gold Cable Wire Ring – I’m not usually one for designer-inspired anything, but this David Yurman look-a-like ring is gorgeous and for $21, it’s a steal, even if you have no interest in David Yurman.
Yeti Dog Bowls – Yes, my dog is spoiled, but having his food and water dishes always out, I wanted them to look clean and go with our decor. We are big Yeti fans anyways, so these were perfect. We got two in black, and they were delivered super fast with Amazon Prime.
Bartender Kit – We have really gotten into making our own cocktails, especially since we are spending way more time at home these days. This bartender kit was so cheap and it has everything we need to feel like professional mixologists in our new basement. This cocktail set would also make a great gift.
DenTek Night Mouth Guard – I grind my teeth a lot at night, but a mouthguard from the dentist wasn’t covered by my insurance. My old dentist in Houston recommended this $22 Amazon mouth guard, and I have (surprisingly) worn it every night and it has helped considerably. Both Jason and I have this now, and it comes with a blue case to store it in, making it easy for travel.
A Detailed Travel Guide On All The Things To Do (And Not To) In Aspen
(If you want to skim this Aspen Travel Diary, the things in BOLD are my absolute recommendations for your next trip to Aspen.)
It’s no secret people are clamoring for escapes and getaways. Maybe it’s a weekend getaway or maybe you’ve decided to take an extended sabbatical into the mountains. That’s exactly what we did and here’s how we spent 30 days in Aspen this summer.
Day One: Walked around the new neighborhood with our pup Perry and immediately the dog friendly town won him over, though it rained most of the day. Aspen is probably one of the most dog-friendly towns you’ll ever visit. That night we ordered pizza and wings takeout from Brunelleschi’s Pizza and watched UFC in our condo, which is for sale for $1.66 million.
Day Two:Walked/hiked Hunter Creek Trailwith Perry. This is probably one of the most popular and easy hiking trails in Aspen, consisting mostly of dirt and gravel with public parking at the trailhead. Then we walked around town, and ate lunch at The White House Tavern – I’ve written about their Crispy Chicken Sandwich in every Aspen story I’ve covered. You can expect a lot of visits from us here. To note: there is always a wait since it’s a super small restaurant, but we are almost always lucky enough to snag bar seats. Then we walked a few blocks to Newbury Park, where I read a new book and my boyfriend hung out with Perry. For dinner, we made a reservation at Kenichi, just a few blocks over. Kenichi has been part of the Aspen landscape since 1991, and for good reason.
Day Three: Grabbed a drop-in rate at O2 for a Sculpt class led by Jenna, who is phenomenal. Later I met up with
O2 in Aspen: Sculpt Workout Classes Are The Best
friends for a cocktail at The W Aspen’s Living Room, followed by delicious and strong margaritas at Mi Chola – one of only two Mexican restaurants in town (there are two more in Snowmass). Their steak quesadillas are a must.
Day Four: Walked to Big Wrap for made-to-order gourmet wraps, known as one of the most affordable meals in Aspen (they are also big enough to split or save for dinner). We got the Rock Your World and Beef Swift Kick. This place is cash only, so be prepared or use their onsite ATM for a fee. Walked through our neighborhood, with trails jutting out on just about every corner with views alongside the Roaring Fork River.
Day Five: Started the morning off with another Sculpt class with Jenna at O2, then went for a hike on Ajax Trail, which is fairly easy and crosses the front side of Aspen Mountain. After the hour hike, went to LOCAL Coffee House & Eatery for an iced latte and Chia Pudding Bowl. Definitely one of the pricier spots in Aspen for a $22 breakfast. Then we had a picnic lunch on the Rio Grande Trail on the river with lots of other dogs. That evening we grabbed a patio seat at Aspen Tap on the corner of Galena and Hopkins, which boast the city’s best people watching. They are known for their beer selection, but they also have rosé. If you’re a fan of the movie Dumb & Dumber, you’ll love their Mary Swanson cocktail, which is basically a grapefruit hard seltzer $7. Then we went
Aspen Shopping: Kemo Sabe Offers Free Hat Steaming + Good Vibes
to Kemo Sabe to get our cowboy hats steamed (a free service they offer) and walked out new ones (nothing like shopping with a buzz, right?). Aspen is one of three locations, the other two in Vail and Las Vegas.
Day Six: Had a 9a tee time at Aspen Golf Club, which is Aspen’s only public course. It’s a beautiful course overlooking Buttermilk Mountain, but one of the oddest course designs I’ve seen. Then a late lunch and happy hour at HOPS Culture’s outside patio. We had a delicious burger and a $6 happy hour rosé for $6. This is a great spot for cheap rosé and a huge selection of craft beer, but the food is pretty average bar food.
Day Seven: Had breakfast at Spring Cafe, which usually closes in between seasons! I get the Acai Bowl and Jason gets the Blueberry Pancakes. Then we took the Silver Queen Gondola up Aspen Mountain and hiked around up top (11,212 feet elevation) with Perry. They even have specific dog gondolas, and all the workers love meeting the pups. Aspen Mountain also boasts the world’s highest official disc golf course
We tried to get the most out of our day pass so came back again to read a book and drink rosé on the mountaintop. We had date night at Ellina, which has a 35-page wine list and amazing pasta dishes. And then finished the night with an Espresso Martini, one of the best in Aspen. Our server Martine was phenomenal.
Day Eight: Walked down by Aspen Meadows and picked up the Rio Grande Trail. We walked around and got lost on trails and in neighborhoods, which is one of the highlights of being in Aspen.
Aspen Is The Most Dog Friendly Town
Then we had dinner at Jimmy’s for an amazing steak and enjoyed their robust cocktail menu, especially their Espresso Martini. Anyone who has been to Aspen knows about Jimmy’s, which is donned an Aspen institute and been around since 1997.
Day Nine: Shopping in town, one of my favorite things to do. We had a pizza lunch at the new Aspen Pie Shop with frosé. I would not recommend the pizza at all, however it offers some great patio seating and people watching and was one of the only frosé I saw in town.
Day 10: Iced latte and work at one of town’s newest spots, Bear Den, which is quaint and super cute. I just had a latte, but the food smelled delicious, and everything is organic and made from scratch. Then another sculpt class at O2, followed by an evening stroll along John Denver Sanctuary. Then we treated ourselves to happy hour and dinner at Mi Chola with $10 happy hour margaritas.
Hiking Aspen – The Ute Trail
Day 11: Morning hike up The Ute, which is popular but not easy. That night we tried the pizza at Aspen Tap and their Espresso Martinis, both were great. We also learned you can also add 5mg Hemp CBD to any drink for $5 (which is so Colorado). We had a phenomenal pizza – The White Pizza – garlic cream sauce, shredded mozzarella, roma tomatoes, ricotta cheese and arugula ($16). I could have done without the massive garlic cloves, but it was awesome.
Day 12: Sculpt class at O2, then walked next door to Starbucks, which is locally owned and operated. Drove out to Grotto Trail, which was an easy hike, mostly shaded and beautiful in every direction. Then went to Devil’s Punchbowl where local boys were jumping in the snowmelt ice-cold water. Went walking around town and hit up the o2 Aspen retail sale, with up to 60% off and scored some mew workout clothes.
Day 13: Drove back to The Grottos Trail, which is one of the most popular spots and enjoyed an afternoon of lounging by the river. Read a new book, packed a picnic with Infinite Monkey rosé and enjoyed the beautiful weather. There is no cell signal, which sort of forces you to relax and enjoy the moment. We drove back and walked through town and did the Hunter Creek Trail hike, which is mostly shaded. Then had dinner with friends at Campo de Fiori (locals just call it Campo), which has one of the best Espresso Martinis in town. The mushroom ravioli is out of this world, and one of the best dishes in all of Aspen. We bounced around next-door at Cache Cache (one of town’s most expensive meals), and then upstairs to Jimmy’s for a nightcap.
Day 14: Took it easy and walked around town. Ordered Hickory House for free delivery, which has awesome wings, pulled pork sandwiches, and more.
Day 15: Walked around Aspen Saturday Market, their weekly farmer’s market in the middle of town. It’s a great way to support local and people watch. They have vendors offering pastries, fresh flowers, and more, but no dogs allowed, which is odd for Aspen. Then we hiked Hunter’s Creek all the way up and down Smuggler Mountain (known as “housewives’ hill” which is my least favorite because it’s very steep and rocky, though the views of Aspen are nice). Went to W Aspen WET Deck, which is Aspen’s only public pool located on the 4th floor. The pool is small, but it overlooks Aspen Mountain and the gondola. We walked over to J-Bar inside Hotel Jerome for their “Locally World Famous” burger ($21) for dinner and a glass of rosé and then their Espresso Martini. The 19th century bar just started doing a rosé of the day ($14), which is a good way to sample some different wines inside the relaxed and casual atmosphere.
Day 16: Started the hike up Aspen Mountain under the gondola and took a left down Ajax Trail, which leads you to the start of The Ute trailhead. Lunch at White House Tavern, inside at the bar, like always. The wait for an outside table, which is dog-friendly, is always 1-2 hours, especially on nice days. Then walked over to Aspen Public House, which is inside the historic Wheeler Opera House and sat outside by the fountains. Jason had a Wild Brewing Company IPA and I went for a classic Espresso Martini.
Day 17: Went for a hike on Meadows Trail behind Aspen Meadows Resort, which is a quick .57 easy
Aspen E-Bike To Woody Creek Tavern
hike that leads to Rio Grande Trail. Went to Clark’s to check out their happy hour menu for some oysters and $8 martinis (though smaller than most). This place has another location in Austin and boasts a coastal and casual vibe. The Shrimp Cocktail was amazing ($20) featuring large with fresh horseradish.
Day 18: Spent the day walking around to enjoy the fresh air and scenes.
Day 19: Drove to Maroon Bells, which are the most photographed mountains in North America. Note that reservations are required (not recommended, required). Scenic views aside, there are six hiking trails of various lengths and difficulties to choose from, plus bike trails, campsites, and more. We hiked to Crater Lake, which is a 3.8 mile out and back hike probably not recommended for a french bulldog, but a fairly easy hike to the lake. For dinner, we went back to Campo, which quickly became one of our favorites. Then we headed downstairs to Hooch Craft Cocktail Bar, which is in the basement of Meat and Cheese, and offers
Hiking Maroon Bells – Dog Friendly
a sexy speakeasy vibe without the nuisance or embarrassment of having to know a password. Even though the cinnamon-loaded Espresso Martinis are $20, glasses of rosé are surprisingly only $8/glass. That’s about as cheap as you’ll find in Aspen (or $30/bottle of “Gris de Gris”). Then to Silver City to try their Aperclaw (like an Aperol Spritz, but this one has Aperol, Cointreau, Black Cherry White Claw and Orange Juice), and was the perfectly refreshing drink in the summer.
Day 20: Went to Victoria’s for one of my favorite Iced Soy Lattes and we got two Ham and Cheese Croissants for breakfast (drinks are recommended, not so much the food). Then we rented e-bikes at Aspen Velo on the corner of Mill and Puppy Smith. There are plenty of bike rentals in Aspen, but this one has the most e-bikes to choose from, and on weekends, they can easily sell out. We rode along the Rio Grande Trail all the way to Woody Creek Tavern, which is fun and easy, and a must while in Aspen. Woody Creek Tavern is nearly world famous. They have decent food, great margaritas, and there are always taxis waiting to take the walkers and riders back if needed, since the trek can be a bit daunting for visitors. This spot is cash only. We rode back via Cemetery Lane and followed signs towards downtown Aspen for a different route.
Day 21: It was a beautiful day for a hike on Sunnyside Trail, which has a path off the Rio Grande or you can type it in your maps to start at the base of the trail where there is parking. Hence the name, this trail up Red Mountain is 100% in the sun, so avoid hot days or the peak of the afternoon if you can. Took an Uber (which didn’t used to be a thing in Aspen, but is more so now) to Home Team, inside The Inn at Aspen located at the base of Buttermilk, where the X Games are held. Home Team has a Frozen Irish Coffee locals love (small $11 and large $13) and a $9 glass of rosé, which is cheap for Aspen.
Day 22: Went to the Aspen Saturday Market to stock up at some of our favorites, and after walking
Aspen E-Bike To Woody Creek Tavern
around, went to Spring Cafe for a Smoothie ($9) and Iced Coffee. We spent the beautiful afternoon at W Aspen Wet Deck for $28 pitcher of strong margaritas, which is such a bargain anywhere, especially Aspen. Then we took a RFTA (Aspen’s bus system is always free and has been touted as one of the best in the country for years) to The Highlands for a night of pizza and beer at Highlands Alehouse. They have tons of beer, pizza, and more to choose from, and although they don’t offer it by the glass, a bottle of rosé is only $33.
Day 23: Walked around some easy trails and streets with Perry. Drove down to Basalt to Butch’s Lobster Shack to avoid paying $38 for a lobster roll in town at Clark’s. In hindsight, I would have rather paid $38 for a delicious lobster roll, then $21 for one lacking in flavor. Then we took a walk on East of Aspen Trail, on the side of Highway 82 headed towards Independence Pass. We walked to the North Star River Access, which is a popular spot to jump off the bridge or put in your paddleboard, and the hike was the easiest in town. Ended the night with an Espresso Martini at The White House Tavern, which was beyond delicious and the perfect balance of sweet and coffee.
Day 24: Did another O2 class, then hiked up The Ute around to Ajax Trail (we did not climb the mountain). Opted for Happy Hour at Jing for $7 glasses of wine (no rosé) and a handful of $7 sushi rolls (or $12 for specialty rolls). Then we sat outside at Creperie’s lounge (real name is French Alpine Bistro, but locals call is Creperie), which has an adorable patio setup on the corner of Hopkins and Mill for an Espresso Martini. They also offer an epic rosé happy hour for buy one get one free bottles, from 3-6.
Day 25: Drove to the top of Aspen Mountain, then walked to breakfast at Aspen Over Easy, which is on the 2nd floor of Scarlett’s and boasts the largest breakfast menu in Aspen and has seating inside and on the sun deck. They offer three variations of a Bloody Mary (each $10) and have signature cocktails like the Hangover Easy ($10). Then we went over to Hunter’s Creek Trail for an afternoon hike with the pup. We made dinner reservations at Monarch, which is attached to Dancing Bear for a chic steak dinner, where they also specialize in Monarch Manhattans ($17-27). The ambiance was great, but the steak wasn’t anything like you’d find in Texas. Next we stumbled upon Betula, which has the ultimate cocktail scene in Aspen, along with an incredible DJ in the cocktail room. The cocktail room is like an actual living room with huge windows, books on the shelf mixed in with actual family photos. The cozy chic experience was probably the most fun (and most expensive) scene we had during our month stay.
Day 26: Drove to Difficult Creek Trail and parked in day use, not the campground parking. The entire hike is 9.8 miles, but is much easier than the name would indicate. Then we drove out to Snowmass for lunch at Base Camp Bar & Grill, which has a pretty expansive beer list and also rosé by the glass. We sat outside near the base of the gondola, but is not a place I would recommend based on the service and subpar food. Somehow we managed to snag a hard-to-find dinner reservation at Betula, and sat at the bar because reservations fill up quickly.
Day 27: Enjoyed a morning hike/walk around town and John Denver Sanctuary, which is perfect for mediation, picnics with the family, or just relaxing. We headed over for a pool day at W Aspen’s Wet Deck for those pitchers of margaritas. Then we walked and shopped around town (mostly window shopping), and had dinner at Mezzaluna, which is fairly inexpensive and solid (wood fired pizzas, pasta and $9 glasses of rosé). They also have a great happy hour with $10 pizzas, $6 glasses of wine, and $6 margaritas.
Day 28: Breakfast at Spring Cafe for their amazing pancakes and french toast, and of course an iced soy latte! Then we grabbed beers by The St. Regis Aspen Resort pool before enjoying my CBD Healing Massage at Remède Spa. The spa also has an oxygen bar and serves you a complimentary glass of champagne when your treatment is finished. It’s not a pretentious spa, but it has all the luxuries and modalities you need after a month in Aspen. After that we headed to their lobby restaurant, Mountain Social for a quality Espresso Martini, and had the bonus of watching their daily champagne sabering where guests and non-guests can gather around. During the summer this takes place at 5:15pm and in the winter it’s at 4:45pm. We walked across the street for more
Aspen Hiking
shopping at O2, which offers the best brands for athleisure wear and more. Then we went to Hops patio for drinks, and made our way around to Aspen Public House for dinner and Espresso Martinis at 7908, which they have on tap (nitro), and are only one of two places in the world that offer this. This is Aspen’s first supper club offering “elevated comfort food,” dancing, a DJ, and an ultra-high end bottle list.
Day 29: A day after too many Espresso Martinis and visiting some of our favorite spots including
Kemo Sabe, lunch at White House Tavern, drinks outside at Aspen Public House, then Mi Chola and Silver City, followed by dinner at Campo.
Day 30: Our last day, so we walked around our neighborhood trails looking at all the beautiful houses, then one final breakfast at Spring Café, before heading back out.

Finding a gym to call home is always a priority for me when I move somewhere new, so it’s no surprise I put more time into finding a new place to sweat it out in Castle Rock than I did in decorating and furnishing my new house. Like I said, priorities.
All that aside, I am so happy to have found Shred415 Castle Rock, my gym here in Castle Rock. It’s located in the Outlets at Castle Rock, which seemed odd at first. Luckily I just hit the gym and walk out without being tempted to shop.
Now that I’ve been a Shredder (their fun member lingo!) for almost two months and gotten my feet wet, I wanted to share 5 reasons to love Shred415 Castle Rock:
Their instructors are the best of the best. Seriously, I love them all. Not only their attitude and motivation they shout out to you during your workout, but their ability to provide modifications, to know when you need a boost of encouragement through the microphone, or to know when they need to call you out for not working hard enough. Every one of these women (they may have male instructors, but so far, I’ve only had boss babes!) are so motivational and help keep me accountable.
Classes are one and done. After I kick butt (or sometimes get my butt kicked) at this Castle Rock gym for 60-minutes, I feel confident my workout for the day is done. I’ve tried other gyms or studios that are challenging, but then feel I have to run afterwards, or do abs or lift a bit. This 60-minute HIIT class hits all the hard parts and pushes you so hard, you leave knowing you’re done for the day. This is key for me, because I can only dedicate about an hour a day to get a good workout in. I don’t have time to workout a few times a day or workout and then have to go for a run later. This fits my schedule and my lifestyle more.
They are involved in the Castle Rock community. This is important for so many reasons, but being a new Castle Rock resident, it’s a great way to meet others and participate in events and charities in my new community.
They offer FREE classes. For starters, your first class is free. That’s awesome, but truth be told, it’s pretty standard. But this Castle Rock gym holds FREE outdoor community workouts each week – usually Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday and Sunday mornings at The MAC. So whether you’re on a budget or maybe can’t afford a gym membership right now, they are still leading FREE classes every week. I think that’s awesome.
They use Woodway treadmills. To say I have bad knees is an understatement. I’ve had nine knee surgeries and my last one was about four years ago, and the absolute worst. I’ve been covering fitness for a while, and have always loved Woodway treads, but this is my first time using them regularly and I can see a difference (please don’t let this jinx my bad knees, please!). Woodway treadmills are known to have a lesser impact on your joints because the surface is comprised of shock-absorbing slats to lessen the impact when you hit the surface (i.e. your foot hits the belt over and over). Basically their rubberized slats absorb foot strike at the point of impact – giving the truest and natural running feel. Read more about the Woodway Difference from their website.
Those are just five of the reasons I love Shred415 in Castle Rock. I could go on, but I probably lost you a few paragraphs ago so I’ll stop.
For those who don’t know, this is how Shred works: Every Shred415 Castle Rock workout is divided into four 15-minute intervals, alternating between treadmill drills and strength training. You’ll select your weights and set your speed on the treadmill, and your instructor will challenge you to work up to your next level—at a pace that works for you.
Also, if you live in Castle Rock and ever want to join me at the gym, shoot me a message or call and sign up for a FREE class and mention my name (either Jayme or The Blonde Side works).

My mom recently came to visit us at our new home in Castle Rock, and we hit the town. For those who don’t know, I am originally from Virginia (my parents still live there), and then I moved to Houston for work. My mom was never soft spoken about how much she disliked Houston, though I think it’s a fabulous place to live. Anyways, then life brought me to Denver, so naturally she came to visit.
We had a bunch of fun Mother Daughter outings, so I wanted to share a few highlights from our time together and some ideas for what to do in Castle Rock. Perhaps it will spur some ideas for your next adventure with your girlfriends or encourage your mom to come visit as well!
We started our day with the best HydraFacial at The Skin Company in downtown Castle Rock. I have had a number of HydraFacials and absolutely love them, but this was my mom’s first. Our Esthetician Lisa was fabulous.
As I’ve gotten older, I tend to get facials that actually do something for my skin, not just the feel-good-massage-kind. A HydraFacial does wonder for your skin, including treating fine lines and wrinkles, evening out tone and texture, helping with hydration and glow, it detoxifies your skin and so much more. Hello and yes please to all of those. Needless to say we left with glowing skin and big smiles. And it’s not a serious treatment, as in, we were able to walk around downtown Castle Rock and do other things without having bright red or peeling faces. It’s seriously no downtime and you’ll be ready to take
The Best HydraFacial in Castle Rock
mother-daughter photos later that night (read on).
Then we literally walked around the corner to B&B Cafe for lunch. My mom is a huge breakfast all-day person, and this was my first time eating here. I had a chicken salad sandwich and she had some breakfast plate, and I’m pretty sure it was her favorite meal of her trip!
We did some shopping, because duh. Not only did we shop around downtown Castle Rock, I took her over to Dairy Block to check out the art and some of the shops there. She loved it because that concept of stalls and so many unique and local vendors is pretty foreign to us Virginia-folks.
Then I treated her to her first-ever frose at The Infinite Monkey Theorem in RiNo, which is one of my favorite places in all of Denver. To be honest, it’s just a quiet and chill place with delicious wine, but I love all that they stand for and how they collaborate in the community. They also just started the most ridiculously cute idea forThe Infinite Garden, which is a Denver Urban Flower Farm that you can “cut your own bouquet” of flowers while sipping in $5 glasses of wine. It’s new and the summer hours are just Mondays and Thursdays for now, so we weren’t able to try it, but you absolutely must check it out.
Infinite Monkey is a must-visit winery in Denver
It’s all about fresh air, supporting local, and creating something colorful and beautiful. That’s what the world needs more of, 100.
My mom is a huge fan of donuts, so of course I took her to a few spots. Although she wouldn’t listen to me, that these donuts were a bit more refined that her favorite Krispy Kreme donuts. First we went to The Doughnut Club in RiNo, which is one of my favorite donut places in Denver. These gourmet donuts come in a ton of flavors, and according to their website, you can have them shipped nationwide, so that’s awesome.
Then we went to Habit Doughnut Dispensary in downtown Denver, which has booze-infused donuts – as an option. This was my first time here, and given the name, I had no idea what to expect. There were only a few options to choose from (we went around 2p.m.), but it was part of a cute little restaurant and a good place to sit and visit.
For dinner, we headed back to Castle Rock for my favorite fried chicken at Great Divide Brewery & Roadhouse. Mostly because it’s one of my favorite Castle Rock businesses, but also because their menu is so expansive, there’s something for everyone. Their peach mules on the cocktail menu is probably my favorite drink (thus far) I’ve had in Castle Rock.
So we basically ate and drank our way through RiNo and Castle Rock, which in my book makes for a perfect Colorado Mother Daughter Day!

I don’t know about y’all, but I am still doing most of my shopping online these days and loving Amazon for some great purchases; not to mention the free returns with Amazon Prime.
Below are my top 5 purchases for September and why I love them:
These high waist yoga biker shorts are one of my favorite ever Amazon purchases and only $21. They come in five prints, and I bought two of them and love them. The quality is great, and they are so soft and amazing. These aren’t see-through and I love working on in them since they are a bit longer so my thick thighs don’t rub together!
Black+Decker Auto Leveler and Stud Finder – Granted this was a Jason purchase, but we have used it for almost every home project we are working on. It’s a bunch of tools and uses in one, which is ideal for any home owner. Plus, if you’re looking for a gift for a handy man or woman in your life, he smiles every time he uses this thing, which is equally cute as it is odd.
Brass Gold Kitchen Faucet– We knew when we moved in that we wanted to make some immediate upgrades, even though it’s a brand-new house. This kitchen faucet gave me doubt since it’s only $100 and a brand I’ve never heard of, but we love the look of it, it’s the perfect golden hue, and it looks beautiful in our kitchen. It was almost a joke that it wouldn’t look good or wouldn’t work, but we were right to buy it and we love it!
Bala Workout Bangles– I fell in love with these weighted bangle weights in Aspen, and they are so cute and functional and now Amazon is selling them in white and black. They have sold out at almost every retailer, so get on the pre-order of these now!
French Bulldog Shark Life Jacket – This is too cute not to love and share, though Perry hasn’t really worn it other than walking alongside the trails in Aspen. It comes in a variety of sizes, so should fit almost any dog. Plus, who doesn’t love a frenchie in a shark vest? It’s like cute overload, but in a safety kinda way.
Check out my August Top 5 Amazon Purchases. And if you’re doing any other online shopping, you’d be doing me a huge favor by using these shopping links. All your purchases are private, it just shows a slight commission when someone purchases from these links.
*This post does contain affiliate links, but all opinions and purchases were made by me.
We have been moving into our new house, so many of my picks for August’s top Amazon picks are related to our new home, so check them out below and let me know if you have any good purchases on Amazon for home decor and furniture.
1. KT Tape – I have been using this athletic tape for years, and during our move I lost mine. Luckily Amazon has it stocked up, so it was easy to order on Amazon Prime. As an athlete, I used to use this all the time because it’s an easy way to support muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments. It’s drug-free, latex-free, hypoallergenic, lightweight, breathable, comfortable, HSA/FSA approved, and easy to use — plus, it lasts up to 7 days, which is nice, especially when I used to train for half marathons. I use it around my shoulder and knees and they have videos to show you how and where to use it. I always keep KT Tape in my gym bag. You can even watch how to apply KT Tape.
2. Amazon Gold Cabinet Pulls – This was something we decided to upgrade after we moved in – the cost from the builder was too high, and this is an easy upgrade to elevate the look of your kitchen and bathrooms for an affordable price. My suggestion for ordering, especially if you order gold is to order more than you need and mix and match them. Most of the golds (even from the same brand) are hard to match, so we ordered about five different sets and used the ones we liked and returned the others. That’s another great thing about using Amazon Prime – look for the free shipping and free returns so you can easily return the ones you don’t use. We absolutely love the way this turned out using gold Amazon pulls in our kitchen and master bath and we used these black cabinet pulls in our basement bar.
3. French Bulldog Puppy Food – We have tried a few brands, and Nulo was highly recommend from some other Frenchie owners. We love this dog food because Perry’s gas isn’t nearly as bad. We get the salmon and red lentils recipe, but most of the other frenchie owners told us to stay away from chicken, so you can probably use any of their other flavors.
4. Bliss Body Wash – I first found this sudsy body wash while staying at a W hotel, and I love the scent and how refreshing it is. We ordered two bottles of this and some loofahs to really elevate our shower experience. Plus, these large 17oz. bottles are only $10 and will last a while!
Cow Art Work at Amazon
5. Cow Wall Art – It never dawned on me to order art or furniture from Amazon, but I could not love this black and white cow print more than I do. It’s proudly displayed in our guest room, and was only $112 and delivered straight to our door. It’s by far one of my most favorite pieces in the house (so far!). (Guest bed shown here is a queen size upholstered bed from Overstock.)
This post contains affiliate links, but all opinions are true and are my own. I also love Amazon because I only purchase Prime for free shipping and free returns, so if it doesn’t work out like you wanted, it’s easy to send back and get a quick refund.

Casper Dog Mattress – Free Shipping and Free Returns
Most of us are still in quarantine or stay-at-home mode, so hopefully my top Amazon picks and purchases this month will be ones you can get a lot of use out of. Speaking of which, my Top 5 for April was a big hit, so check it out.
Casper Memory Foam Dog Bed: If you’ve been following my recent adventures, you know that I got a french bulldog puppy for Christmas and I am obsessed. He’s already chewed up one dog bed, but this one came highly recommended, and it looks great in our living room. We got him a size small, and he absolutely loves it. I think my dog has a nicer mattress than I do, to be honest.
Traeger Grill Rub Bundle: We have been grilling out a lot during quarantine, and Jason loves his Traeger grill. This 3-pack of rub tastes amazing and has all the flavors we need, so we can cut down on having one million seasonings and spices in our cabinets. We stocked up on Good Ranchers quality meat, so we have more than enough stuff to grill for the next 6 months, which is awesome.
City of Girls Book: Anything by Elizabeth Gilbert is worth a read, and halfway into this book, I 10/10 recommend it. It’s set in the 1940’s and takes place in NYC. I have never wanted to live in NYC, but after reading this, I sort of wish I had spent some of my younger years living in the city. It’s quite hilarious, takes my mind off current issues and is written brilliantly, which shouldn’t come as a surprise if you’ve read any of Gilbert’s other books.
10″ Ring Light: Full disclosure, I have a different ring light, but have friends who have this one and I’ve also used this one, plus this one is $40 cheaper than the one I use. This is great for family photos, doing Instagram LIVEs, and more. Also, if you don’t already follow me on Instagram, please do! Funny how people used to make fun of ring lights for bloggers and vloggers, but I have friends who just prefer to take pictures of their meal prep using ring lights and other great uses. It’s quick and easy to set up and easy to transport too.
Resistance Band Set: Another easy addition to your at-home workout set and makes a huge difference. You can even YouTube or search videos specifically using resistance bands – think a new arm workout with the band around you arms. Trust me, it’s a game changer for your workouts, and with a number of resistance bands in the set, it’s perfect for low to high resistance and you can even share with your quarantine workout buddy.

Having a website name devoted to your hair colors means you better take pretty good care of your hair, right?
Here are my favorite hair products for blonde hair and when and how I use them.
Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Hair Mask: This is probably my favorite hair product. I use it about 1-2x a week, and I love the product size as it lasts me months. Shampoo and condition your hair, then towel dry, generously apply this hair mask, brush through, and rinse out after about 7-minutes. Not only does it give your hair the moisture it needs, especially if you use a lot of heat products, but it smells wonderful.
Wet Brush: This is the only brush I use, and it helps to detangle my hair much easier than any other brush. It’s the only way I recommend brushing your hair when it’s wet, and it’s a must to bring in my beach bag or pool bag. Stock up with this brush.
Sun Bum Sea Salt Texturizing Spray: This product smells wonderful and helps give messy waves and some texture to my hair. Although you can use this on dry or towel-dried hair, I only use it on towel-dried hair if I don’t plan on doing anything that night (i.e. spray this, then do a loose braid at night, and voila in the morning). I have not had much luck with this spray on dry hair, but the next product is my absolute fave!
Toni & Guy Sea Salt Spray: If you’re only going to buy one sea salt spray or hair texturizing product, this is 100% the one you want. I typically wand my hair (with this hair wand) for loose waves/curls, wait about 5-minutes and then run my fingers through my hair to break up the curls. THEN I use this spray, just a few squirts all over my head and shake it out. It gives it that perfect peachy-wave look.
R+Co High Dive Moisture Creme: This product doubles as a leave-in conditioner, which is great for blonde hair and gives it a shine boost and makes it more manageable.
Joico Color Balance Purple Shampoo:You’re not living the life of a blonde if you haven’t invested in a good purple shampoo. Purple shampoos are meant to counteract brassy tones, so use this once a week or every other week to help balance your hair color back out. Yes, it is bright purple and looks kind of weird, but it’s so worth it. This one doesn’t have a smell to it, which I find a bonus. This is another must for blonde hair, and the Joico brand is highly recommended by many hair stylists.
My Top 3 Dry Shampoos:
When I say I’ve tried them all, trust me, I have. I hate washing my hair, so having a quality dry shampoo is a must for me. Here are my favorites.
Bed Head Rockaholic Dry Shampoo: This is my go-to dry shampoo and I always have at least four bottles on hand, plus their travel size ones. Dry shampoos work differently for everyone, but this is my favorite and I know many other blondes who especially love this one too.
R+Co Death Valley Dry Shampoo:This one smells great and I absolutely love the way it soaks up the oils, without making my hair chalky or adding more oils to it, like I have found others to do.
Oribe Gold Lust Dry Shampoo:This one is swoon worthy, and the one my Houston hair stylist uses. It smells amazing, and works magic on my hair, but I’ll be honest. As much as I use dry shampoo, this one is a bit out of my price range. If you can afford it, go for it, or if you only use dry shampoo once or twice a week, this one may be a great option for you. (I use my dry shampoo after the gym too, to soak up the oils and get it back to life, which is another reason I use mine so often.)
Moroccanoil Shampoo and Conditioner: These are my everyday shampoo and conditioner that our whole house loves. They smell amazing and the conditioner is probably the best for my hair that tends to get tangled fairly easily when it’s wet. If you can splurge for the bigger bottles, I’d recommend it.
R+Co Sunset Blvd Blonde Shampoo: Clearly this is a brand that I love and highly recommend any of their products, especially their shampoo and conditioner sets. Here is the match for the blonde conditioner.
Purple Shampoos are super important – I linked my favorite Joico Purple Shampoo and Conditioner above.
Everything I linked above was to Amazon, but Ulta is also a great place to get your hair and beauty products.
If you’re in Houston and need a hair stylist, especially for blonde hair, but for anything really, call Roi at Tease Color & Style Bar on Richmond (off Kirby).
This post contains affiliate links, but all opinions are my own and these are all products I loyally use.
These at-home orders are tough for all of us. I’ve seen tons of “what to do you in your downtime,” and I guess I should count my blessings I haven’t had a lot of downtime. My clients are needing more work, and my days seem to be shorter having to share at-home office space with two other people and a puppy.
But for those who do have downtime now or in the near future, I wanted to share some blogging tips for optimal ways to update your blog and grow your blog presence. I have been blogging on The Blonde Side for 10+ years and run multiple corporate blogs, so I do have some valuable blogging tips to share.
If you want to succeed as a blogger and hopefully make money as a blogger, it takes time. If you aren’t sure where to start, here are some ideas.
Here are 15 things to do to help grow your presence and make the most of your time:
Support other bloggers. Yes, this is my #1 tip. Supporting others in this industry in a genuine and authentic way will do wonders for your blog, your growth, and your community. Guess what? You were probably inspired to start a blog because of these people, so share the love. I know you’d want the same love reciprocated, right? Do this in simple ways: shoot them a message thanking them for their content, leave a comment on their blog post, LIKE and share on social media, link to their blog on your personal FB page, etc. Many times they will reciprocate, but it also shows you share other relevant and fun content, not just your own 24/7. Plus, just be reaching out to their blog or social media, you can see ways they are successfully doing things (or not) and generate some of your own content ideas.
Create graphics and link your evergreen blog posts on Pinterest. Use one of the free Pinterest templates on Canva to create a graphic and link it to your posts. One of my most read recent blogs was this Downtown Denver Dairy Block Hotel Staycation Guide. A few weeks after posting the blog, I created a Pinterest graphic to link to it. I looked over my business Pinterest analytics and one of my most engaging pins all year (!) was the Denver Dairy Block pin, so I took a few different images from that trip (Pinterest does not recommend sharing the same pin or same graphic over and over, so take time to make a few different ones, including the text overlay), and added different text overlays and scheduled the pins. They continue to perform well, so I started using that same logic for other evergreen posts like At-home Workout Tips and 3 Weeks of Workouts in Denver. There is definitely something to be said for evergreen content (content that doesn’t have to be updated often) and sharing it on Pinterest, so take that approach for at least a few posts and see where it gets you.
Speaking of Canva and Pinterest, spend time utilizing their free online tutorials. These are
15 Blogging Tips That Go Beyond Just Writing Blog Posts
so useful and will help you get in a rhythm to market your blog the right way. Canva literally has a Design School online, which is FREE.
Learn blog-related skills other than writing, like coding and photography. Full disclosure: I haven’t the slightest idea how to code, but when I have time to sit down and learn, it’s top of my list. Not only are these helpful tools for your own blog, it’s 2020 and these are tools we all need. I can’t count the number of times I have emailed or texted my web guy for something as simple as a spacing issue, even in WordPress, which is pretty user friendly. It’s a lot, trust me. If I knew some of these simple coding tactics and wasn’t afraid to mess up my post, I’d try it. Also on this list are video editing tools, so I have been trying to get better at using Splice for my client videos to simply add professional logos at the beginning and end of clips and fit social media.
Update your links. If you’ve been blogging for a while, it’s with great certainty I can say you have broken links on your site. Broken links aren’t a good look for your blog, nor are they doing you any SEO or Google justice. Spend time re-reading old blog posts and clicking through the links to make sure they are still functioning. I have a ton of sports articles on The Blonde Side that link back to CBS Man Cave Daily, a portion of the CBS site that is now defunct. It’s time to clean up those links.
Audit your blog. This goes with #5, but go through your entire blog and make sure your contact info is updated, there aren’t misspellings, that your photos display correctly, etc. It could even be handy and fun to offer to trade auditing services with another blogger – a clean set of eyes will benefit you both.
Can you update any posts to make them evergreen? Again, it takes time, but go through old posts and see what you can add to make them relevant now and reshare them again. I have a post about tips from working from home – if I spent my time wisely, I could update a line about how COVID-19 has found many people working from home or link to my favorite work-from-home Amazon products, then make a Pinterest graphic (see #2), and share it on my social networks as a way to share relevant, useful and timely content. Those clicks from Twitter will help your overall numbers. You are providing a service with actionable and helpful tips to your followers (social media, strangers, newsletter, etc.) and they are providing beneficial web traffic – it’s a win win. My friend Carrie Colbert does this magnificently.
Sign up for influencer sites. If you want to make money from your blog, this is ideal. Setting up your profile, interests, web analytics and more allows brands and third party sites to reach out to you for collaborations, which can bring in a few hundred dollars, per collab. The two I have had the most success with are Activate and AspireIQ, but there are literally hundreds, especially if you’re interested in trading for product ( I am not).
Create (or recreate) your elevator pitch. I’ve had a decade of experience with this, but I find it’s usually hit or miss introducing myself as a blogger to strangers. Many people still don’t understand what that entails or the fact it’s more than a hobby. I talk about how I’m a sports and travel and fitness blogger as well as a corporate copywriter. I’ve found keeping it simple at first allows whoever I’m talking to to ask questions they want to know. Perhaps they want to know what fitness publications I’ve written for or what athletes I’ve interviewed. That lets me share what I do in a valuable way that benefits both of us.
Create your hit list of brands and/or follow up with your targeted list. To go along with #7 where you hope brands come to you, it’s smart to have an outreach list. This is something I have done for years. I create a folder on my iPhone, my computer, Instagram saves, and more, with snaps of products I think truly align with my brand and following. For me, this tip would be to spend the time researching the company/brand, finding their PR or media contact and sending out a collaboration request. Sometimes it can be as simple as sliding into their DMs, but I have had much more success taking it off social and into email. I clearly state why and how we should collaborate and go beyond “I love your clothes and want to share an OOTD.” People do that for free all the time with clothes they paid full price for. Why should they send you clothes or even better, why should they pay you? What can you offer them that they would consider valuable? I find my list many ways – looking at companies already spending money on other influencers (hit that IG save button), seeing who is spending money on Google ads or sponsored posts, what companies sponsor the MLB team in your neighborhood or advertise in your neighborhood publication. That means they already see the value in marketing (and have a budget!), now you need to show them the value in marketing with you.
Create or update your media kit. This is essential for me and should come before #10, but this sets my blog apart from others that are merely a hobby. Being able to send a professional media kit with demographics and updated engagement rates and blog and social media numbers shows brands you mean business, and that this is a business. You can Google free or cheap media kit templates or odds are you have a friend who is a designer you can pay $100 for their work. You only need one page, but include the pertinent info so they don’t have to look you up, which they likely won’t find the time to do. Send them a good looking and factual media kit, get their interest, then they look you up and respond.
Plan your content calendar. I have never been good at this, but I can see why it’s so crucial to your blogging business. Pending your blog niche, staying ahead of holidays and trends (i.e. DIY Pumpkin Ideas or 4th of July Recipes and Outfits) can truly set you apart and keep you organized. In fact, Pinterest Business sends emails to remind you about “peak planning periods” for upcoming holidays like graduation, Mothers Day, Memorial Day, etc. so you can get your blog posts up, and start generating traffic from Pinterest when people being the high level searches.
Create content ahead of time. This is a big one, if you can pull it off, also part of #12. Although my blog is a large part of my business and income, I also run other corporate client social media accounts and blogs, so those will always come first. But when I do sit down to write blog posts, I tend to try to knock out 3-4 at a time. I’m already in “my voice” and usually have blogs ready to put to paper, so I will write and schedule them all at once, so even when life gets busy, I still have content being posted. Same is true for social media posts (scheduling ahead on Facebook) and creating those Pinterest graphics and scheduling those. This allows your readers to get your content when it’s most important and gives you a better chance of making affiliate money off their link purchases or having them share your content on social media.
Create content on other channels, related to your blog. For me, a loose extension of my blog and where I can make extra money are Poshmark and the LikeToKnowIt app, so having photos ready to post and share are helpful. You can shop my links here.
Take evergreen photos. As I’m writing this post, I’m wondering what photos I have in my existing arsenal to feature. None come to mind, so that may delay this post, oops. I went to a fashion blogger panel at SXSW probably 6 years ago where one of the fashion influencers shared a secret that blew me away. She admitted she shot all of her OOTD for a two-week period in one day. It finally made sense. These gals didn’t always dress to the nines and have a full face of makeup to run to Target. They simply hired a photographer (or used a selfie timer or asked their boyfriend for help), did their hair and makeup perfectly and changed outfits multiple times, and by the end of the day, albeit exhausting, they had all their content they could edit, save and schedule. Time saving tools like that and the ability to plan ahead (i.e. taking your Memorial Day outfit pics and linking to them on the blog before the actual holiday) can result in a lot of money, not to mention your sanity.
Those are my best blogger tips for your spare time. Of course writing compelling content and staying consistent are great tips too, but that’s stuff you probably already know.
Do you have any tips to add? Or favorite bloggers who just kill it at the blogging game?
